Columbia is South Carolina's capital and home to the University of South Carolina. Along Columbia's wide avenues are historic sites ranging from an antebellum mansion to the former home of a slave who bought her freedom, plus museums, galleries, music venues, theaters and shops. Columbia's three rivers, lake, canal, national park and several city parks offer opportunities for recreation and relaxation. Among the kid-pleasing destinations are a zoo and the largest children's museum in the south.

In 1935, Cromer's was founded by midlands South Carolina farmer Julian D. Cromer. Shortly thereafter, Cromer's took on near legendary status when he added fresh roasted peanuts to his produce stand at the Farmers Market in depression-era Columbia. Today Cromer's is still family owned and forever "Guaranteed Worst in Town"
This is a great place to visit. There are plenty of peanuts and popcorn. There are also barrels of individual candies, like Mary Jane's, Smarties, and taffy. The back section has supplies for parties and carnivals. The people working there are friendly. My husband found Divinity fudge bar which he had as a child. He bought it and it was not only delicious, but brought back memories of his family's cross country trips. This is definitely a place to visit, but it has moved to Main Street.

We were on the road and looking for regional, local gifts to bring back home. This place hit the nail on the head. It's kinda like that restaurant that has a general store attached only this one is 3 times the size with way better prices. They have tons of boutique items, plenty of clothing and shoes, a huge candy store where they have all kinda things I have seen since I was a child, all the toys from the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, etc. Many local and homemade items. Great prices. I bought gifts for 10 people and then also got myself a sherpa sweater-- $150 Everyone was very friendly and covid procedures are in place.
