The 10 Best Gift & Specialty Shops in Colorado, United States

February 8, 2022 Elouise Mccaul

Colorado is home to no less than twenty-six ski resorts such as those in Vail and Breckenridge; other winter activities include snowboarding, sledding, sleigh rides, snow hiking and snowmobiling. The state is blessed with national parks, grasslands and forests where in warmer weather you can enjoy hiking, mountain biking or rock climbing. Wildlife abounds, from bears to moose and raccoons to wolverines. More interested in local history? Head for either the Ute Indian Museum or the Koshare Indian Museum, and don't miss the forts such as Fort Garland and Bent's Old Fort. For a complete change, why not take a ride in a hot air balloon from South Park Valley or Boulder and admire Colorado's picturesque landscape from above?

This was our first time fly fishing and it was a fun and rewarding experience. So glad we did it! Our guide, Stephen, took us to a "secret spot" and taught us the essentials of fly fishing and within minutes our first trout was caught! He was very encouraging and fun. We fished for 3 hours and ended up catching both rainbow and brown trout. We enjoyed the quiet and breathtaking scenery as well.

Hi. In walking around downtown for the first time just exploring the area we had to go in here. All kinds of sweets home made and otherwise. We settled on a couple waffle cones and a couple of elephant feet I thing. Those were huge candy’s made of Carmel pecans and chocolate. Terrific.

I visited here with my daughter (then 12 years old) more than 15 years ago, and she still remembers the yummy pastries and the wonderful book selection. We went back again this week (together) and it really hasn’t changed much at all. Be sure to visit the used book section upstairs - lots of best-sellers and classics at bargain prices. Interestingly, we were there during the start of the coronavirus outbreak, and the bookstore asked all patrons to wash their hands in the restroom before handling any merchandise, I appreciated that extra care.

The Taffy Shop

Estes Park's original Salt Water Taffy Shop, in business since 1935. Made fresh from scratch!

Reviewed By ATXneko

I grew up coming to Estes Park every summer as a kid, and when I finally made it back as an adult with my husband, I was worried that it might have changed too much. When I saw the Taffy Shop, with its original taffy pulling machine in the window and the ornate white wrought iron decorations, I was instantly relieved and fascinated all over again by this charming and delicious gem of a store. The flavors and quality of the taffy is unbeatable. We have been returning to Estes Park regularly since then, and we always make several stops to the Taffy Shop. The best feeling is hearing my daughters both say that they look forward to bringing their own families here someday. I gave my husband a taffy-of-the quarter birthday present one year, and it’s hands down has been his favorite gift ever! Recently, we were visiting and buying boxes for both of our girls. One lives out of town, and the shop made it so easy by handling the shipping for us at a very reasonable charge. Also, after taking care of that order, my daughter asked for a change. The lady who was working that day (Sun. March 1st, 2020) was very kind and understanding, and she went to the back to get the box and make the change. She was awesome!
