Two years after my last visit we revisited Bomi county again and of course also Midui glacier which this time could be enjoyed is all his splendid beauty. No clouds to be seen and unless the last time it was really a beautiful view. The trail to the glacier lake got some improvement and also the platform at the lake's edge looked new. Due to excellent weather we were also able to view many more 6,000m plus mountains and glaciers all the way from Lulang forest to Bomi and Ranwu Lake. This part of Tibet is not so much visited but when it comes to natural beauty it certainly is one of the 'big diamonds' in Tibet's crown.

Our group of 14 from Sri Lanka travelled in a private coach from Lhasa to Shigatse on 7th June 2018. Unfortunately it was a cloudy chilly day with intermittent rain. Along the way we climbed up to Kambala Pass (4800 metres) and followed the scenic Turquoise coloured Yamdrok Yumtso for about 40 km. After having lunch in a little town Nagartse we climbed again up to Khamba La pass (4850 metres). We came to Karola glacier on our way down from the pass. All along the road were snow-capped mountains. Although there was no rain, the sky was cloudy and grey. I photographed the whitish glacier against the grey backdrop together with the colourful flags fluttering in front. I wished that the sky were blue! This glacier of compacted ice and snow made up of a large ice cap took our breadth away!! It was a beautiful sight. At the same time it reminded me of the fragility of this environment which continuously shrinks these ice caps and glaciers due to global warming resulting in reduced flow into the rivers and environment upon which people depend for their livelihood. We were therefore fortunate to view this glacier in its present state and will always cherish its memory. The admission fee for tourists is 50 Yuan per person. Needless to say – It was very very cold and warm clothes, of course, a necessity.
