The 10 Best Fun Activities & Games in East Vancouver, Canada

January 28, 2022 Agatha Simes

Vancouver was founded as “Gastown” by an Englishman with a penchant for beer and storytelling. Today Gastown is a historic section of the Canadian metropolis, and the lively pubs still reflect the area’s former status as a sort of community drinking center. The city’s forests, grand parks, and impressive suspension bridge beckon travelers to explore them, as do the city’s shops and museums. Relive the glory of the 2010 Winter Games with visits to Olympic venues and the marvelous Olympic Cauldron.

Zero Latency

Zero Latency is the global leader in free-roaming, multiplayer virtual reality. Our “gaming arena” spans over 1500 sq ft, designed for 6 players and is the largest VR gaming arena in western Canada.

I went to Zero Latency in the first weekend of March 2020 with a group of friends. We all play on a rec sports team together so we thought we'd try out our teamwork skills in VR. A few of us have done these group VR things before, but for everyone in our group, it was our first time at Zero Latency. We booked ahead and they were ready for us. We got fitted with the backpacks, guns, VR goggles and headsets. They made sure all our equipment was working before going in. The game we played was a space mission. I have to say, compared to others, the story was actually pretty good, but what blew me away was the immersion. Not only were the goggles great (no screen door effect) but because this place was so big, when you walk around the game, you actually forget you're just in a big empty room in a mall. Was so much fun, and the staff used their own phone to take photos and videos (with our permission). After the session was over, they AirDropped it to my phone for free. Super nice of them.

My husband and I love escape rooms, and will often do one or two for our "adventure of the day" (aka dates). We just did Avalanche and Arcade Frenzy and absolutely loved them! The amount of puzzles to solve is just right, and we managed to escape both rooms in our allotted time. The staff are great and enthusiastic. We will definitely return to try the CSI one!

We went to the track for a friend's get together. They had rented a suite and had it catered. Food: smoked salmon and cream cheese, prosciutto, desserts, veggie platter. The food was very nice. And the venue is spectacular!! We were just at the Kentucky Derby and I have to say I enjoy this smaller venue. And with the backdrop of the north shore, it's stunning. It was a beautiful day in sunny Vancouver. Sunshine, wine, horses and wiener dog races. Best day ever!!

Cineplex The Park Theatre

What few people do not know is that The Park is one of two theatres in Canada that screens 70mm film prints. The other is in Toronto. I saw my favourite film, 2001: A Space Odyssey several times during the 50th anniversary release in 2018. I've seen The Hateful Eight and Once upon a Time in Hollywood in 70mm.Today, I will see Tenet in 70mm. When The Hateful Eight screened in 70mm, I recall reading that only 50 theatres in North America can do that. That makes The Park a hidden gem!
