Sleepy Cove Trail

Reviewed By stevemC636AV - Pasadena, Canada

My wife and I, along with our two golden retrievers, had a great day last week on this trail. We decided to make an afternoon of it and do Sleepy Cove to the lighthouse and add on the lighthouse to Cuckholds Cove with a loop around at the end. Sleepy Cove is a is a beautiful trail that takes you out to the coastline and leads you up to the lighthouse. Great views from many angles. Some inclines, declines and steps. Someone in moderate physical condition would have no problem with this trail. It takes you to the steps that lead up to the lighthouse. Beautiful views up there as well. If you're going to add on the trek to Cuckhold's Cover, beware, there are a lot of incline and declines. I would not rate it difficult, but not moderate ether. But the views of the bay and harbour make the full loop the best option. We took our time and it with stopping for water breaks, photos, and enjoying the scenery, it was 5 hours total, 13 klm. It was too pretty to rush. Good sneakers are a must as there are lots of places you could slip. PS: Leave your car near the trail head of Lower Head Rd. if you do the full loop, you'll end up in front of the Crows Nest Café, where you'll find awesome coffee, cookies, and brownies. And you car is 5 minutes away.

Fantastic viewing including trips up to the inside of the lighthoue and the story of the Titanic. If you are lucky enough to see a pod of whales frolicking below its a fantastic sight. Watch fishermen working in their boats in the waters below the lighthouse. Close by is the fudge and gift shop. A must visit when in Twillingate.

Lower Little Harbour Trail

A 5 km long trail to a resettled community, the home of Thomas Sugg, featuring two root cellars from the 1930s, a 20 foot Natural Arch, and scenic Jonas Cove. This trail is one of the most challenging in the area, and also features breathtaking views of the North Atlantic, sea birds, stone stacks, redolent and abundant forestry, peat bog and glaciated landscape.

French Beach Trail

This trail follows the coast and headlands. We went as far as French Head (about 3 km return). The trail was not too challenging but there are a lot of exposed roots and no board walk. If you are a regular hiker (or even walker) you will not find it too difficult. Great views at all points along the trail. Highly recommended.
