Goes along river Glomma from Gressvik to the Old town with stops in centre, every 20 mins and across the river from the Old Town every 15. Excellent for both tourists and commuters. Only grumble:: the oldest boats are noisy in reverse gear. I live in Fredrikstad, so use it often.

You can get there by car, but if you walk up the hill, starting from the harbour, you will enjoy it even more. I loved it all: the catacombs with candle lights, the guides in costumes, the light- and film-show at midnight, the amazing views. I'll be back!

Hanko The island was once the Master of The manor Elingaard`s hunting territory. You get here by boat, or by ferry from Hankosundet. When at the ferry point, check out the old red-painted Seilerkroa (Ferry inn) built in 1883 as part of Hanko Baths. Follow the path up to the once fashionable saatorium hotel Hanko Fjordhotell & Spa, raised in 1877. Turn left between the tennis courts and you will see the old riding stables, built around 1900. Take the road to the right of the stables and on to Hanko Plads - one of two small farms on the island. Turn left at the barn, and turn right where the footpaths cross and follow the power lines. Cross the stream and turn left, walk northeast towards Karibukta. You may be lucky enough to spot some fallow deer along the path. Fallow deer from Denmark were released her about a century ago, and the island has a thriving herd. Dogs must be kept on a leash! Continue along the path as it bends to the left and you arrive at the bay near hotel, directly opposite Seilerkroa and Bloksberg, the Royal Family`s old country estate, higher up the mountainside and now owned by Princess Märtha Louise and Ari Behn. Hanko has a centre for sailing from the 1880`s. as darkness falls, you can see Kristian Blystad`s memorial to King Olav V, a sailboat lit in silhouette, out in the sound.

The peninsula’s history is thought to have started with small fortifications which were built during the 13th century. Until 1680 Isegran was Norway’s only sea based military harbour. At Isegran you will find the Fredrikstad museum where many exhibitions are held. From Cafè Galeien you can take in the beautiful view of Gamlebyen (The Old Town) and Vaterland in the south. Here you will find a maritime centre which builds and restores wooden boats.

Northern Europe's best preserved Fortified town, is thriving with history, shops, galleries and café's.
I love this place. Charming old fortress town filled with history (take a walking tour), beautiful buildings, cafeterias (try Mormor's Cafe or Magenta) and shopping (Kortevaren is a must) and lots of small galleries and artist's shops, glass blower's hut etc. A flee market in the town square each Saturday. Take the free ferry across the river to visit Fredrikstad sentrum as well.

Visiting Moss in summer i brought my grand son around Moss city centre hunting for "poles" which were placed around in the city. It brought us through Nesparken, a really nice place, relaxed atmosphere! Also nice to sit and rest your legs.

(Roed Gaard) Roed Farm is the place for cultural experiences for the whole family! The main building is almost 300 years old and is situated in beautiful cultural landscape. If you would like a guided tour of the main building and the lovely rose garden, contact us for further details. We also accompany for private parties in the old potato storage or outside in the garden. Roed Gaard is a lively, cultural environment with many artists who have their own workshops and stalls, where you can buy their work. You will also find galleries specialising in art and craft and picture art. We won’t settle for just that though. We also have glass blowers, jewellery artists, design, wallpaper, guitar and accordion makers, photographers and a workshop where picture frames are made. In the storehouse you will find great antiques and in the farm shops you will be able to buy homemade chocolate, learn about how soap is made in the soap works and go back in time to learn about the art of weaving in the weaving house. In our café we serve freshly baked pastries. During the summer season, there are many events that take place, such as concerts and our very own Roed Rock. In the early morning of 11th March 2010, the barn at Roed Gaard burnt down. Several animals succumbed to the fire. The music school, Gallery Kvinnelist and photographer Helge Ek's studio, all situated at the farm, burnt down too. Millions of kroner worth of art were destroyed in the fire.
