Nafplio (Greek: Ναύπλιο) is a seaport town in the Peloponnese in Greece that has expanded up the hillsides near the north end of the Argolic Gulf. The town was an important seaport held under a succession of royal houses in the Middle Ages as part of the lordship of Argos and Nauplia, held initially by the de la Roche following the Fourth Crusade before coming under the Republic of Venice and, lastly, the Ottoman Empire. The town was the capital of the First Hellenic Republic and of the Kingdom of Greece, from the start of the Greek Revolution in 1821 until 1834. Nafplio is now the capital of the regional unit of Argolis.

We went looking for this shop, only to discover that it had closed. Luckily we mentioned this to the receptionist at our hotel, who knew that it had just moved. It is now at 16, Staikopoulou Str - which is basically at the other end of the street near the main square - and it's now called Anapliotiko mpakaliko. As everyone else has said, Giorgos' knowledge, passion and enthusiasm for the produce which he sells (and often makes) is both infectious and persuasive. He only stocks the very best and knows about each product in depth. If you want to buy some local produce, this is the only place to shop. Fantastic.

If you are walking by, take a peek inside. Beautiful old church close to Old Town. At one corner of the plaza you can see where the man paints the religious paintings for the churches. Beautiful! There is nothing else really in that plaza.

Wine tasting is now a tradition in the “Karonis wine shop”, in groups of 20-25 people from all around the world. Comparative tasting of Greek wine varieties and ouzo, tsipouro, whisky and all kinds of spirits. There is also a possibility to choose among five hundred Greek labels and two hundred foreign ones, as well as many aged Greek wines dating since 1990 and foreign wines since 1987.
Beautiful store, great selection. Options for any price range. Bottles ordered in a very aesthetic seemingly random but very thought of manner. Very nice owner.
