Memphis is a pilgrimage for those wanting to visit the birthplace of the blues, of soul and of rock 'n' roll. On Beale Street, W.C. Handy put down on paper the first written blues music. Elvis, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash all recorded at the historic Sun Records, which is now a museum. Graceland, the second most-visited home in America, welcomes visitors from around the world who yearn for a peek into the life of "the King." Beyond the music, Tennessee's largest city also offers much more. It has more sunny days each year than Miami, and combines southern tradition and hospitality with modern amenities. You'll enjoy great dining (be sure to sample the barbecued ribs), art galleries and exciting nightlife.

Overton Park is a 342-acre public park in Memphis, Tennessee. The park is home to two playgrounds, a dog park, an open Greensward for recreation, a Veterans Plaza, and the 126-acre Old Forest State Natural Area. It features more than eight miles of trails, including the Bike Gate arch and plaza trail. The park is managed by the nonprofit Overton Park Conservancy. Overton Park is also a major cultural attraction, home to a nine-hole golf course, Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, the Memphis Zoo, Memphis College of Art, and the Levitt Shell concert pavilion.
Overton Park is a beautiful park in Memphis midtown. Old forest trail in the park offers several running paths with splendid forest views. Levitt Shell is an open-air amphitheater in the western side of the park at which you can enjoy plenty of free music concerts almost four night a week during Summer and Fall. Brooks museum in the western side of the park is a small good quality art museum with a neat coffee shop inside. The park is very close to Overton Square where you can find great restaurants and entertainment options in a lively environment as well. If you come to Memphis and would like to spend a few hours to relax in a park, enjoy the music, or run in the woods right in the heart of midtown, give Overton Park a shot and you will be satisfied.

TURN OFF YOUR CELLPHONES when you’re in a church, people. They went off three times - and one clueless lady just let her tropical ringtone keep going... amplified with church acoustics. So disrespectful. The service we attended was very joyous in tone (no homophobic messages) and warm and welcoming to outside visitors. The band - with guitar, bass, drums, organ and piano - is amazing. One of the female solo singers was a great blues/soul singer. My husband and I are musicians and not particularly religious. Al Green was in really good spirits until the cell phones. But be prepared that 1) the service can take 2.5 hours and you can’t get up and leave, there’s no break (but we thought the time flew by.) 2) do NOT use flash photography and maybe just try to be in the moment and don’t photograph at all. 3) this is a Sunday sermon for the local parish where local events will be addressed - the focus is not to be a tourist attraction. 4) other pastors will be leading the service for the first half before Al Green begins to talk (and sing!) Show respect, set aside ample time, turn off your phones, and have a really cool and uplifting experience.

Tom Lee Park has a great view of the Mississippi River as it is centrally located between the two bridges spanning across the river into downtown. A great green space, fun for the whole family. Not to mention, this is also the site for Memphis' iconic annual music festival, Beale Street Music Fest, and other Memphis in May activities including BBQ Fest.

Open the doors of St.Mary's and one encounters the presence of God. As a child growing up my daily/weekly attendance was at Holy Names, but, Christmas we would walk to attend St.Mary's midnight Mass. Wow! I love this church and the memories of LOVE that I have encountered there. Our wedding was held there and our walk down to my beloved Grotto to say our first Marriage prayer together bound us for 61 1/2 years. Although we moved from Memphis in 1971 every trip back home would not be complete until we attended Mass at St. Mary's. I truly wish all could experience the beauty of this small church....walk around inside and devour it's beauty, you will not be disappointed.

This cemetery is an amazing place to visit. A must for photo and history buffs. Civil War soldiers buried here, yellow fever victims and many famous Memphians. The cemetery has done a great job of making this historic place come alive. You can take an audio tour.
