Proud Kumamoto Castle is considered one of the most important of its kind. Visitors will be awed as they explore its stone curves, array of turrets, and displays of armor, weapons, and maps. Suizenji Jojuen Garden is downright cinematic, a playground of slopes and dips and trees, in a million shades of green. Cherry blossom season is a lovely time to visit.

A very special place to find gifts and souvenirs - woven place mats, ceramics, scarves, tea sets....

This shrine is quite a walk from the tram station but it's worth a visit for a nearer view of Kumamoto castle.

If you don't have much time in Kumamoto and have a few hours to kill, this is the place for you. Lots of eateries and souvenirs. Great for families with older people and younger kids as it is traffic-free and safe to just wander within the compounds of the place without worries of getting lost.

You will go bananas if you are a fan of this lovely figure. Being the office of this city’s most iconic thing, it is the place that suitable for couples and families to go. Many related souvenirs to buy here though the price is quite costly. Really strongly recommended to visit this place at every 3:00pm as there is a performance of kumamon. It attracts people around the world to get here. Definitely a must-go place!!

The actual Castle was closed when we went to visit due to the earthquake a hear earlier. This statue stands at one of the entrances and it has great presence.
