The 10 Best Free Things to do in Holland, Michigan (MI)

January 23, 2022 Leonardo Torrence

Founded by Dutch Calvinists in 1847, the city of Holland, Michigan, is an outpost of Dutch culture and tradition in the midst of the American Midwest, home to dikes, canals and even an authentic Dutch windmill. Proud of its heritage, the city purchased 100,000 tulip bulbs from the Netherlands back in 1927, and these colorful flowers still fill the city's gardens and parks with color annually, just in time for the famous Tulip Time Festival, attended by over half a million people every year.

This is a wonderful area. They have nature trails and wildlife that is well organized. It is fun to walk the trails and stop at the bird shed or animal buildings. They had a wonderful Halloween gathering. The weather did not cooperate but it was fun anyway.

Mount Pisgah

Reviewed By PattiHunt - Roselle, United States

I noticed this in my AAA tour book and after tulip sight-seeing, decided to give it a go. After a short walk through some wooded area you reach a large stair and boardwalk system. Stairs are numbers by ever 25th one, if you check the lower right side of the stairs...the numbers are faint so look closely. Thankfully, there are benches placed for weary climbers to rest a spell and look out over Lake Macatawa. The view of the sand dunes and Lake Michigan is worth the climb, along with the satisfaction of succeeding.
