A stylish beach town on France’s southwestern coast, Biarritz was once the vacation spot for nobility and is now Europe’s surfing capital. It’s experienced a tourist renaissance—summers are busy. Biarritz lacks the Riviera’s glitz, but you’ll see affluent vacationers in designer gear and surfers in flip-flops, and hear French, Spanish and Basque. The Grande Plage is the center of the action. Behind it, visit the restored, Art Deco casino and wander the streets down to the old port to the west.

Maison Arosteguy was founded in 1875 in Biarritz and defines itself as the oldest delicatessen of France. Real pillar of the gastronomic world in the Basque Country, it selects for customers the best products of its region but also the whole world thaks to the knowledge and the expertise transmitted from generation to generation. This daily market makes for an enjoyable walk whether you are here to buy or just to look. As well as clothes and hats outside the first hall has meat, veg and preserves and the hall behind is dedicated to fish - one stall was making up presentation displays of 'fruits de mer' just like a bouquet of flowers back home. Stalls take cash or card and open again early evening when the area around the market becomes even busier with street cafes doing a brisk trade.
