Rendlesham Forest Centre

A lovely forest with plenty of walks for all abilities; whether it’s to walk the dog, a Sunday afternoon stroll, plenty of resources to find your inner ‘Bear Grylls’ or take your bikes along and explore . . .

Dersingham Bog

This ain’t any bog this is Dersingham Bog, it’s actually a Nature Reserve. If you get chance the chance then go, you won’t be disappointed. The car parks aren’t actually car parks, more like lay-bys. But it’s free. Head for the village of Wolferton, off the A149, either turn off will be okay, which is also wonderful.

Bacton Woods

We enjoyed a really relaxing walk around these woods while staying in Bacton. Lovely woods, free parking, very quiet and our dogs had a great time. Great walking routes well marked and easy to follow (take a photo of the map though before laving the car park just in case!)

Thetford Forest Park

Planted in the 1920s, this forest is home to a great variety of plants and animals.

A forest with some sort of hyper-powerful mycelium in the ground producing spectacular mushrooms. In a certain are I in one year found 126 penny buns alone! It took four bags to carry that out. This year I was not so fortunate with just ten penny buns, but I did find an orange birch bolete which I have never seen before AND I found a first for the UK in the form of a leccinum percandidum here once as well. Away from the ground, the forest is incredible and offers for nature observers the chance to observe red deer, roe deer, muntjac deer, hares, foxes, nearby you can find stone-curlews and long-eared owls and goshawks tour the skies above. In all a wonderful place, and my favourite forest. Forestry England has made this into a wonderful place.
