We had a lovely Prosecco tasting with one of the daughters. It is really nice that it is a family business and it is informal. We really liked it!

Upon entering into the new headquarters of Cantine Umberto Bortolotti situated in the heart of Valdobbiadene, the recent renovation expresses the sensation of tradition brought about by the attention to detail and innovation influenced by the evolution of the discerning customers expectations. This has always been the philosophy of one of the historical producers in Valdobbiadene, founded in 1947 by Umberto Bortolotti, a pioneer in local oenology with a passion for the territory. Umberto Bortolotti became one of the founders of the National Sparkling Wine Exhibition and the Confraternita del Prosecco. Today his son Bruno with the grandson Daniele has inherited this tradition and with the same passion and motivation continues to combine tradition with innovation creating new variations of sparkling wines. Yearly production is around 975.000 bottles, 540.000 of which are Valdobbiadene DOCG. Visits to the winery are possible upon appointment for groups not exceeding 50 people .
What a fun afternoon we had at Cantine Umberto Bortolotti. Fantastic hospitality by Guy and Bruno. Not easy dealing with 10 thirsty ladies, but they did a fantastic job of teaching us what to look for and what to avoid, when ordering Prosecco back home. The tour ended with a delicious tasting, cheese and nibbles and lots of laughs. I can’t recommend this winery highly enough and having the tour conducted by an English speaker was definitely a plus for us.

Winetasting/winetours are available at 11:00, 15:00 and 16:30. Booking in advance is required on our website. PDC is the only Wine making farm specialising exclusively in the production of grapes and sparkling wine DOCG Valdobbiadene Superiore di Cartizze. Four versions are produced: "Organic Cartizze BIO EXTRA BRUT", "Cartizze BRUT", "Cartizze EXTRA DRY" and "Cartizze DRY". Located in the Cartizze hills, the heart of the PROSECCO SUPERIORE territory, PDC makes it its aim to cultivate vines and make wine following the most natural winemaking practices. Organic BIO cultivation, in the vineyards all processes are carried out by hand, from harvesting to pruning, whilst keeping phytosanitary treatments to a bare minimum.
Very friendly and knowledgeable, Pietro took time (about 20 minutes) to explain his Prosecco when we showed up unannounced. Excellent Prosecco in the middle of the Cartizze region that competes very strongly with the multitude of other producers in the region. I've been visiting the area for over 30 years so I already have my favorites among the many I have tasted over the years. Pietro certainly knows what he is doing and I plan on many return visits. Driving up a long dirt road nestled between the grape vines sets a unique atmosphere that made for a better experience.

In the 1980s the Bortolomiol family purchased and subsequently renovated an ancient silk mill in the heart of Valdobbiadene: the sympathetic restoration was carried out with regard for the industrial archaeology and the character that the complex had at the beginning of the last century. The complex of buildings renovated by the Bortolomiol family is the smallest of the four that existed in the Valdobbiadene area at the start of the 1900s and is in the centre of the town, inside a splendid Park – the Parco della Filandetta – which hosts the organic vineyard, the first winery, an avenue of ancient hornbeams and some works by the sculptor Casellato. The silk mill has now been converted into a bright and spacious tasting room and is today an Art & Wine Farm, or rather a showcase for all the skills involved in winemaking, a new concept where art and culture come together and enhance each other.
