The 10 Best Food & Drink in Savannah, Georgia (GA)

January 9, 2022 Agatha Simes

Charming Savannah is the picture of antebellum hospitality, thanks to period architecture and oak-lined streets. It’s tempting to spend your trip just relaxing on vast verandas and sipping mint juleps, but there are plenty of historical sites and museums to explore. Haunting (and possibly haunted) Bonaventure Cemetery is one of the hallmarks of the city, featuring beautiful obelisks, masses of flowers, and ivy-covered crypts. Dine on fresh seafood and creamy grits for a taste of Savannah home cooking.

We spent the evening with executive chef Jason at the 700 Kitchen Cooking School in July and had a wonderful time. Jason taught us how to prepare a wonderful four-course dinner consisting of shrimp bisque, seared halibut with cabernet mushroom risotto, an herb-roasted tenderloin with bearnaise sauce paired with roasted vegetable hash, and a delicious espresso chocolate mousse with raspberries for dessert. The dinner even included wine! The food and drink alone were well worth the cost of the cooking class (you won't find a better meal in Savannah in our opinion) but the laid-back atmosphere and manner in which our meal was prepared put the whole experience over the top. We were able to participate in the process and were provided more than a few cooking tips along the way including how to prevent butter sauces from breaking- an issue I always run into when I am trying to cook fancy.) Jason's hospitality made it the best experience of our weekend in Savannah. The food was exceptional and Jason's down-to-earth easy-going manner made the evening one to remember. We would highly recommend this class to anyone visiting Savannah. You will not be disappointed!!!

A distillery in Savannah? Who knew. Took the tour last year which was an education. Cocktail bar offered specials. I asked for a smoked manhattan, off the menu, but bartender created a taste treat for me! I purchased 3 bottles for shipment home (to California). Bottles arrived in perfect condition. Once shelter in place is over, a tour & tasting should be on your Savannah list.
