Once a shipbuilding city, Newcastle's flashier claim to fame is nightlife. Throw in a heap of premium restaurants serving foods from all over the world and it's no wonder young partiers choose to blow their hard-earned (or not-so-hard-earned) cash in Newcastle. While these amenities are certainly a draw for the hipsters and culture-seekers, it's the locals that make Newcastle a truly special place to visit. "Geordies," as they are often called, embody the pride, industriousness and resilient spirit of their city.

What a great gift this was a day at cookery school. A warm, friendly welcome. Demonstration from chef first then off to make the same with the professionals wandering round chatting, advising and helping. I’ve leant to make a variety of dishes that I will definitely be making again.

Anarchy Brew Co. started life back in 2012 in Morpeth, Northumberland, and has built up a reputation for producing quality beers packed with well-balanced flavours. Following on from the success of core beers such as Blonde Star and Citra Star, the brewery has expanded over the past seven years to creating more iconic beers, in keg, cask, and their new 440ml cans. October 2018 saw the brewery move to a bigger site in Walkergate, Newcastle upon Tyne, with the addition of a new taproom playing host to tap takeovers, brewer meet-ups, gigs, DJ sets, and other popular events every Friday and Saturday. Beers from Anarchy Brew Co. can now be found across the globe, proving popular in Russia, Italy, Finland, and many other countries, and with recent collaborations with 7 Fjell Bryggeri (Norway), plus several more in the pipeline, the brewery continues to go from strength to strength.
I had the best burger ever from here, my friend recommended the roller derby inspired Tyne and Fear burger. Chips were top notch as well, looking forward to coming back here

My sister and I treated ourselves to a chocolate making workshop in February 2020 as part of a long weekend to Newcastle. I was delighted to find that the workshop was just the two of us and Zoë, the owner of La Chocolatrice (for me, as an introvert, part of the stress of workshop-type experiences is having to interact socially with other people) so it felt like a really relaxed and calm environment in which to concentrate on ... chocolate! Zoë was an excellent guide and made the 2 hour workshop interesting and fun. She was also really informative on little indie cafes we could go to as part of our trip, which we really appreciated. During the workshop we learned how to make truffles, chocolate flakes, peppermint chocolate crisps and took away all the chocolatey fruits of our labour (plus we bought some more of Zoë's creations to take away, most of which didn't survive the train journey back up to Scotland). Zoë provides recipes for how to recreate the workshop experience at home, and during the Covid-19 lockdown she introduced an online shop for her business which I have indulged in a few times, always receiving high quality chocolate very quickly with a lovely personalised touch. My overall experience of La Chocolatrice has been wonderful, and gives you something that not only tastes great, but gives you a warm and happy feeling long after.
