We travel all over the world and love visiting cellar doors.....this one @ Margrain Vineyard has to be rated one of the best. We were made to feel welcome from arrival and Kate is not only extremely knowledgeable but entertaining as well. The tasting room was quite busy when we arrived but she handled it all in good humour and even remembered where everyone was up to.....now that's impressive! The range of wines and quality for such a boutique vineyard is amazing. We ended up settling on the Margrain Gewurtztraminer.....and so pleased we did.....matched beautifully with our dinner from Tamarind in Blenheim a few days later :) If you only visit one cellar door in Martinborough.....this is the one!

Schubert Wines

A world search, which also included France, Germany, North and South America as well as Australia for the ideal area with perfect conditions for viticulture, especially for Pinot Noir, brought Kai Schubert and Marion Deimling, graduates of the German Viticulture and Oenology University in Geisenheim to the Wairarapa, New Zealand. Schubert vineyards are closely planted and the unique climate produces low yields and internationally award winning wines with intense and complex character; predominantly exported to currently 25 countries.

Schubert was the last on our list for wine tasting and we were not disappointed. Coco was attentive and ensured we weren’t sitting around without a taster for too long. We ended up ordering a mixed case of four different wines which coco arranged to be couriered home. They arrived home before we did - how’s that for service! You don’t have to book for a tasting but it does fill up fast. From memory bookings are recommended for groups of six or more.

We had booked a tasting here. Very worthwhile. Seated at a tabled we were able to try a number of their wines. Other turned up there for a tasting but without a booking - they were turned away. We purchased quite a lot of wine there.
