Mary Arden's Farm

The Farm was the childhood home of Shakespeare's mother. Today you can experience all the sights, sounds and smells of a working Tudor farm, just as it would have been when Shakespeare was a boy. Watch "Tudors" go about their daily routine, see rare breed animals and explore nature trails. There are daily falconry displays and archery at weekends and in school holidays. There is a playground for children from 2 upwards, a picnic area and a cafe. Mary Arden's Farm is a working farm that keeps pace with the season so there is always something new to see and do.The Farm is open seasonally from Easter to the end of October half-term.The Farm is 3 miles from the centre of Stratford-upon-Avon in the village of Wilmcote. There are buses and trains to Wilmcote. The train journey takes 5 minutes and the Farm is a short walk from Wilmcote rail station. It is also a pleasant walk along the canal from the centre of Stratford.

Visited Mary Arden's Tudor Farm on 8 October 2018 and had a fantastic time exploring the farmhouses (both Mary Arden's and also Palmer's farmhouse). Enjoyed speaking to the 'Tudor residents', watching them having a Tudor Farm lunch and questions were welcomed from the visitors. Learnt so many things: that the Tudor people were very superstitious (dead frog in the kitchen window to ward off evil spirits, a small fairy door in the entrance, etc.). Can highly recommend this experiential museum, exploring farming methods in Tudor times, seeing the rare breeds, and we enjoyed a lovely lunch - delicious organic sandwich with salad. The Tudor 'natives' were most friendly and accommodating.

Napton Cidery

We are international award wining craft cider producers in the picturesque village of Napton on the Hill. All of the cider apples are from unsprayed orchards in Hereford that we take our time to select. You can visit the farm and learn how our cider is made, taste our limited edition recipes and pick your favourite ciders from our shop to take away. We also have our small batch apple brandy or aperitif to sample. You can pre book tours and parties. There is a great canal side pub and village artisan shop within walking distance from us. Our cidery is wheelchair friendly and we are happy to help too.

We like to do a tour like this every now and again and this was a Christmas gift bought by the kids. We arrived in the dark and found our way into the shop. We were greeted with a glass of cider a choice of their No'3, 4 or 5, all by the way delicious which we were to find out later in the tour. Once our group had all arrived the tour began with an insight into their history, processes and methods used with a walk through each stage. After the tour we decided on food before tasting. We were served a plate of hearty pork stew with nice crusty bread (I happily tucked into a second helping) Then the tasting began, with a sample of all of their wares. Even the Cider vinegar went down well. All in all a fantastic evening and well worth the trip out., finished with a small shopping spree to stock up on the wife's favourites.

Tunnel Barn Farm

Just 7 miles from Warwick lies Tunnel Barn Farm and if like me you or your children are are anglers then you must fish at this fabulous venue. The staff are very helpful and will ask you what you want from your day and advise you where and how to fish. However, in all truth no matter which of the nine pools you choose to fish or what peg YOU WILL CATCH FISH! The fishery is basically landscaped with cinder paths so there is never any mud. Also it is usually possible to park behind or very close to your peg so its great if you are infirm or you can take advantage of many of the disabled pegs. If you take your wife along their are very clean toilets and also a restaurant on site which is also very clean. If you wish to stay for a few days there are very well appointed lodges and caravans for hire. The large onsite tackle shop sells everything you need including all types of bait which is fresh daily. All prices are very reasonable and the staff are very helpful and friendly and will ensure that you enjoy your day/weekend/week. I find this fishery to be very safe to walk around and to fish as all the pegs have roomy very secure pallets to fish from. Just to whet your appetite the record match weight at Tunnel Barn Farm is 433lbs 15 ozs!!! Do not miss out on fishing this beautiful venue!

Hoar Park Craft Village & Children's Farm

Set in the beautiful North Warwickshire countryside, Hoar Park Farm dates back to the 1430's, with existing buildings dating back to 1730. These traditional farm buildings form the centre of the craft village. As well as being a craft, antique, garden centre and children's farm, Hoar Park remains a working farm covering some 143 acres.

Great little place to visit. Procedures in place during current COVID-19 circumstances. Social distancing was easy to do due to the large pathways and also having to book a time slot. Sanitizer stations were situated around the farm too. We enjoyed a visit to the sweet shop after, tucked into an ice cream and also had a play in the outdoor play area
