The 10 Best Farmers Markets in Finger Lakes, Finger Lakes

August 21, 2021 Frederic Celentano

New York’s Finger Lakes region takes its name from 11 freshwater lakes placed like a handprint between Lake Ontario and the Pennsylvania border. Skiing, hiking and biking trails traverse the landscape; visitors can also indulge in various wine, cheese and beer trails. The area offers a culinary bounty, with an emphasis on farm-to-table cuisine. Rich history and culture are found throughout the region, with one attraction more inviting than the next.

We visited on a Saturday morning. There is plenty of parking, just wear appropriate footwear as the parking lot is wet and muddy. About 85% of the vendors were there when we went. Everything from fresh vegetables to wines, ciders, local crafts, honey, prepared foods, and coffee. We tried a couple of empanadas which were phenomenal and our only regret was we didn't buy more. Highly recommend.

Rochester Public Market

The market was everything I was hoping for and more. Within five minutes of being there I was greeted by a nice young man from a fresh fish still who gave me an introduction to the market when I told him I had never been. The variety of products was incredible, the efficient operation and friendliness of the people was delightful, and the atmosphere was lively and interesting. If I lived nearby I could see myself doing over half of my grocery shopping at the market every week. The next time I am anywhere near Rochester I will plan another visit.

This local institution has always remained true to its' roots...organic, eclectic, humanely + locally sourced. Such a pleasure to have the new location that can add to those qualities the following: -abundant and well-lit parking lot -spacious shopping aisles -beautifully displayed goods (especially the produce!) -a large selection of bulk items -an even larger selection of specialty items with knowledgeable staff to advise (vitamins/tinctures/cbd personal care/etc...) It's a Gem!
