I am very late with my review as my trip was in September 2019, but it was so amazing I didn't want to miss sharing it with all of you. We were on a cruise and Athens was a port of call. We hired Dennis for 7 plus hours and together we designed a fantastic itinerary. He showed me where to go to purchase tickets ahead of time and all things were a go from the moment we got off the ship. We saw everything! Dennis was helpful, polite, flexible and we were so lucky to get him to show us around the great sights of Athens. Athens is a HUGE city. If you are not in town long please take my advice and hire Tours of Athens for a PRIVATE air conditioned tour. We had plenty of time in each place and it was very very hot so having a vehicle just waiting for us was a no brainer. We had 6 people total and I believe we each around 80 euros for the entire day. Well worth it. Time is money! Thank you Dennis and I am so sorry for the late review.

The guide spoke very well English and has a lot of knowledge about the monasteries and the surrounding area. The guide is like a friend with who you experience the tour. Because of Covid-19 we where unfortunately Privileged the only two people in the tour bus what was a great experience for us. I went with my wife back in March of last year, during the low season and the early days of covid, and this was the highlight of our honeymoon. We took the two-day trip from Athens; one would not have been enough. We took both the sunset tour and the monastery tour; there were about half a dozen other tourists on the sunset tour, but the monastery tour the next day was just us and our tour guide from the night before, Vasilis. Vasilis was very knowledgeable and eager to answer any questions we had, whether about the rock pillars, the many monasteries and their icons and frescos, Church history, anything. He was happy to help us take pictures as well, and was a good photographer. The train arrived in Kalampaka about an hour after the ticket said it would, but that seems to be normal in Greece. They picked us up from the station and dropped us off at the hotel we were staying at so we could get lunch before the Sunset Tour started. Grand Meteoron was going to be closed during both tours, so we took the opportunity to visit during this time. The hotel they set us up in, Hotel Kaikis, was nice and quiet, and when we woke up in the morning, we were given a good, large breakfast. I'm sure the morning hike would have been nice, but we do not at all regret taking the monastery tour. The monasteries and churches we visited are all beautiful, most were still active., and Vasilis told us a lot about them. The views were breathtaking. We encourage you to take this tour with this company.

After the fascinating tour of the 3 most accessible monasteries, you can enjoy a delightful lunch with Greek traditional dishes and “Mezedes” in the picturesque Kastraki village. On your way back to Athens, stop at Thermopylae, where one of most epic battles of all times took place. 300 Spartans faced the Persian army and stopped them for 2 days. See the battlefield and the statue of King Leonidas.
