Here for a few days mid August. The dams are impressive and worth a visit to them all as they are all different and the countryside is amazing, plenty of walks to do. Lots of people on bikes as well. Dog friendly.

This dam transformed Cardiff's landscape from unsightly, marshy mudflats to dry, fertile land surrounding a pretty lake.
Beautiful walk on a beautiful November day, lots of places to stop and sit for a while. Lots of places to have a drink and something to eat, there is a play park at one point. Lovely to stop and watch the different boats. There are toilets at two points along the way, you can skate board, roller blade or skate, kids can go on their scooters and you can bike ride as well all safely. The bridge does open but the barriers come across first. You can get different boat rides just ask the price first as we got on one only to find out it was a fiver each as we read it was three pound each.

On a recent sunny Wednesday, me and Hubby decided to return to the Dam Disaster Memorial which is located on the B5106 inbetween Llanrwst and Conwy (opposite Surf Snowdonia). There is free roadside parking. We walked around the short (but slightly steep) circular trail, reading the commemorative plaques along the way. On Monday evening, 2.11.1925, the dam wall above the village breached. Massive boulders, debris and mud were carried down the hillside by the force of the floodwater, destroying everything in its path. The villagers could hear the church bells ringing as it was being swept away. A total of 10 adults and 6 children (aged between 4 months and 5 years) died.......R.I.P.

Visited last week and was blown away by the sights. No water running down but water was shooting into the air at the bottom and we could feel the spray from the car park. Definitely recommend

We walked the whole circular trail (11km) and it’s a quiet, varied route with some spectacular views. Saw an Osprey hovering above us which the kids loved. Parking was £2.50 and only by cash as the card reader was broken. We drove past Brenig and that seemed much busier in comparison - probably due to it having facilities etc. (Alwen doesn’t have anything).

The drive from Llanidloes over the hills to Machynlleth is one of the UK’s most scenic drives. Passing the lakes which have excellent sailing and picnic spots it’s well worth a visit if in the area. For a country drive roads aren’t too narrow either and suitable for campers

Beautiful views of the reservoir and surroundings following a well laid and mainly level path. Free parking and well signed pathways.

A flat easy access walk across the cob gives great views to the Snowden range on the east and the coast to the west. The Ffestiniog railway shares the cob and gives further interest, and of course provides an alternative method of crossing and viewing. The road takes the same route below on the inland. The cob runs from the rail station to the engine sheds on the south end.

One of the six Victorian Elan Valley reservoirs, each with superb and wonderful engineering and views to die for. Well worth driving round and stopping off at the various car parks, or going for walks across the glorious countryside.
