The 10 Best Cultural Tours in Dresden, Saxony

October 21, 2021 Christa Meece

On the banks of the lovely Elbe River, the German city of Dresden is lush and green, filled with forests and gardens and parks. The city is rich with cultural and artistic history; the great operatic composer Wilhelm Wagner debuted a number of works here in the 1800s and, today, an independent light opera company keeps the classical art form modern and fresh. Culture vultures will love the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister and Grünes Gewölbe museums, and architecture buffs will salivate over the mélange of styles reflected in the cityscape.

We went on this tour on Tuesday 25th August. We were picked up by Honza and had the whole tour to ourselves. The trip from start to finish was brilliant. Honza was an excellent tour guide, very friendly and chatty :) The tour itself is breath taking and very much worth the money. This is an experience of a life time and everyone should do it. Highly recommend doing it with Bohemia Adventures as to try and do it solo would be extremely challenging. The lunch was absolutely delicious and the staff in restaurant are very friendly. The restaurant itself is extremley unique and lovely decorated inside. The boat trip was very fun and very different. The tour guide on the boat spoke Czech so Honza kindly translated it and added in his humour. I would highly recommend this company and the trip as it was the best trip we have done in a very long time. Thank you for such a great day with amazing memories and photos!

If you are in Meissen, go for the Stadtkirche (central market place) and ask if you are allowed to climb the tower. Currently, the tower is under renovation so please ask in the Tourist office opposite of the Stadtkirche for the key. You've to pay 2 EUR and then you can climb up the tower.
