Bardez is the name of a region and taluka in North Goa. The name is credited to the Brahmin immigrants who migrated to the Konkan via Magadha in Gangetic India from Āryāvarta, in the north-western part of the Indian sub-continent. Bardez or more properly Bara (twelve) desh (country) means "twelve countries" (or lands). The form "country" probably refers to clan territorial limits, or to the Brahmin comunidades, of which the twelve, in no particular order, are Aldona, Moira, Olaulim, Nachinola, Siolim, Anjuna, Candolim, Serula, Saligao, Sangolda, Assagao and Pomburpa

Goa was a Portuguese colony for over four centuries during which there was a strong influence of culture, language, tradition and architecture. All over the state there are beautiful houses which have floor plans and features from what you would observe in Portugal. Most houses have been built with the skill force available locally. Hence each house is a beauty by itself. The walls have seen centuries worth of stories that have led to making it special for us in the current day. We are in the city of Chandrapur which also happens to be the Oldest known capital of Goa. Picture the days gone by where it had armies, fortifications, battles and flourishing trade. Right from the Bhojas to the Silaharas, Chandor was a thriving settlement due to the connectivity that the river Kushavati provided to the travelers. The village is famous for the legend of the Queens curse that was brought upon the village as a result of treachery of the warriors of the kingdom.

We were guided by Mario on the tour who was very curt and professional. He waited patiently as well as we were 5 minutes late. The introduction was really good and informational and as it progressed we came to know about a lot of new information. The walk was also a really nice one. It could have been a bit more engaging. Since we were just 2 folks, we had the whole walk to us but the experience was kind of stretchy a few times. Probably some kind of activity could have been introduced. We give it a 4/5. Thanks Anirban

Excellent tour with Katienne, who made 2 hours fly by with anedoctes and historical facts about the quarter. I really found cute both the stop at the bakery and the fact that Make it Happen gives you the chance to send a postcard anywhere in the world, taking care of the shipping. Well done!

Aldona is the most beautiful village in the world? How often do you hear the whole village saying that? Wherever you go in the village and whoever you spoke to – you would hear only one thing – It is the most beautiful village in the world. Asking them, how many villages have you been to is not a valid question. They are simply in love with their village! There are some very interesting stories that we uncover in this trail - one of how a celebrated educationist was honoured with a statue in the center of the village square, The Sao Tome church built in 1596 CE on a plateau next to Mapusa river, The Bridges of Aldona and the Corjuem Fort. A visit to a prominent house is the village is also a part of the trail

I must say, it was excellent working with Crossmiles travel for organising my engagement in Goa, end to end. From booking the hotel and tools, the management of the decor and venue for the engagement, as well as transport for the guests, everything went off extremely smooth and in the best price. Willy and his team were personally involved as if we were his family and I can't thank him and his team enough. Excellent to work with and zero tension.

Take a walk through the village wards of Saligao while picturesque fields surround the settlement. Visit a Portuguese house and get a chance to meet some of Goa’s renowned artists in our Saligao Village Walking Tour. Witness the simple yet splendid village lifestyle. Situated amidst picturesque surroundings of the typical Goan countryside is the Mae De Deus church at Saligao. Mae de Deus is stark, stern with a glamorous charm in contrast with Baroque style churches of Goa. The Mae de Deus church is a breathtaking sight with its Gothic spires and pristine white walls. It is among the finest in the Gothic style and is attractively illuminated at night. Built in 1873, it is the finest example of Neo-Gothic architecture in Goa which is in contract to the Baroque style churches of Goa. It houses the miraculous statue of Mae de Deus. The statue was eventually brought from the ruins of the convent of Mae de Deus at Old Goa.
