Penang is a Malaysian state located on the northwest coast of Peninsular Malaysia, by the Malacca Strait. It has two parts: Penang Island, where the capital city, George Town, is located, and Seberang Perai (formerly Province Wellesley) on the Malay Peninsula. The second smallest Malaysian state by land mass, Penang is bordered by Kedah to the north and the east, and Perak to the south.

Mypintu Plate Cooking Class is hands-on original recipe and fun for tourists and foodies alike to Georgetown, Penang. Besides our chief instructor, our guest instructors include English-speaking cooks from popular eateries and stalls. Our 3-hour class will teach not less than 4 famous Penang street food dishes with 2 desserts and delicacies. Our classes are fully equipped for 6 students. We teach some of the most popular street food and local dishes. They include Char Kway Teow, Nasi Lemak, Penang Laksa, Mee Goreng, Roti Canai, Roti Jala, Chicken Curry, Dhal Curry, Masala Wadeh, Teh Tarik, Prawn Noodle, Chicken and Beef Rendang.
We are foodies and have been to several classes around the world and like to pick up a few tips along the way. This was a great 5 hours delivered by a guy with passion and patience and a great sense of humour!! After the first hour of learning about spices the cooking began..., and then the eating!! Most of the dishes we will cook again, some we will modify as we are not lovers of shrimp paste. As this is a part of Malaysian food we can not moan. Overall a fab day with the lovely Khalid who can not do enough for you, lots of humour, history and laughs, and his wonderful assistant. Highly recommend this class. Thanks Khalid... Mags and Shashi x

Fantastic cooking class hosted by Pearly, an enthusiastic, friendly and extremely talented teacher (who also happens to teach internationally renown chefs!!) The whole experience was fantastic; Pearly accommodated my friend and I at the last minute and booked us on to the next day's class. We were picked up from our hostel by Pearly and made our way to the market where we met the other eager cooks. Around the market we learnt about local produce and met the locals. Pearly and her lovely husband, Chandra then took us back to their home to teach us how to cook three very different and delicious traditional Malaysian meals. After cooking, you then sit down as a class to eat, swallowed down with refreshing nutmeg cordial made by Chandra. We would do the whole class again and can't recommend it anymore to anyone who enjoys cooking and tasting local cuisine. Thank you Pearly and Chandra for having us and welcoming us into your home for an unforgettable experience :D

I will be relocating to Penang in the new future and during my short visit I wanted a cooking experience that included visiting the market. In the shops I had seen so many vegetables that I had never seen before and don’t know how to prepare. Alou went above and beyond. She is extremely knowledgeable and patient and takes time to answer all your questions. The market experience was so much more than I expected. Alou explained what each of the vegetables could be used for and how they could be prepared. Watching the crushing of coconuts to get the milk was an experience not many would have the privilege of witnessing and then watching and tasting roti and various dishes been made just added to the whole experience. Back at the kitchen, Alou made you feel right at home and was able to articulate what you needed to do and how. I would highly recommend a cooking class with Alou and there are also various dishes to choose from. I feel that I came away having made a friend not that it was just another cooking class that I had attended. This was certainly the highlight of my stay.

A first of it’s kind in Penang, the school is custom-made with individual purpose-built workstations that allows for a memorable hands-on cooking experience. As classes are limited to 10 persons, chefs are able to provide a personalised approach. Though the menus follow authentic and traditional methods they are taught in such a way that you are able to recreate the delicious dishes at home.
My daughter and I booked a half day cookery course at TSG. Booking online was easy. It was a wonderful experience. The morning started with a tour of the spice terraces in the garden which was really interesting. Our guide, Elaine, was extremely knowledgeable and informative and the setting is just beautiful. Then came the cooking. The cookery school is in its own building, very clean and well equipped. All our ingredients had been laid out beside our places and basically we then spent the morning preparing a three course lunch: the steps were demonstrated by the lovely chef in charge and then we did it for ourselves. There were 6 of us in the class which felt ideal (but the max is 8 so it will never be overcrowded). We had asked in advance to cook vegetarian and this caused no problems at all - recipes were slightly adapted but were absolutely delicious. It was all thoroughly constructive and well organised and, at the end, we all sat round a table in the open air and enjoyed the fruits of our labours. If you enjoy cooking and enjoy exploring different flavours this is a brilliant thing to do in Penang. Tip for getting there: the bus 101 from Georgetown stops right outside TSG.

This was definitely one of the best things we have done in Malaysia! We have learned so much about different asian cuisine, cooking styles and culture. It was a truly rememberable experience! Samuel is a very passionate, inspiring and yet humble person who will treat you more like you are his guests than customers. ☺️???????? Do not miss out on having a private cooking class with him! You won‘t regret it

Nazlina's Cooking Classes are held 4 days per week. We start at 8am with a local breakfast, followed by a tour to the local markets. As the Market Tour is only available in the morning, people for the afternoon class may join the morning Tour and then come later for the afternoon Class. When you book, please advise as to any dietary requirements or allergies. Nazlina has been featured in New York Times' 36 Hours in Penang, on the BBC Good Food Channel, as well as several in-flight magazines. She built the business single-handedly, starting with renting out garden spaces to hold her classes in, and is now the proud owner of a 100 year old shop-house in the heart of the heritage zone in George Town, Penang. All equipment in the Cooking Studio is of the highest quality including German made stainless steel products, steamers, pans and woks. The prices are RM250 per person for the morning Class, and RM200 per person for the afternoon class (without breakfast or Market Tour).
We joined Nazlina for one of her wonderful cooking classes. It is a well thought through experience, beginning with breakfast, followed by an interesting and informative market tour, the main event of the cooking class, finishing up with the lunch that we cooked as a class. Thank you Nazlina for sharing your knowledge and stories with us. We can’t wait to try the recipes at home.
