Evancy Bray Dunes Etoile de Mer

Bray-Dunes Etoile De Mer is our newest building in Bray-Dunes that is available since the 27th of April 2015. All apartments offer a fantastic seaview and they all have a balcony (except for those on the ground floor). The apartments are ideal for families of 4 or 6 persons. Bray-Dunes is the first coastal resort you come to on your way to France via the French-Flemish Opal coast. On both sides there are nature reserves – Les Dunes Marchand and Les Dunes de Perroquet – that are heavens for cyclists and walkers.

It’s all about the view

This place gets 4 stars purely for location (walking distance to everything yet away from the crowds) and view (phenomenal sunsets). Our apartment was nice & adequate, but it needed an update (especially the bathroom) and was a bit dusty & not well cleaned upon our arrival. Otherwise, check in/out was convenient and easy, and the staff was very friendly when I called about specific questions and changes to my reservation. Booking directly offered us better rates than through anything Trivago, Booking, Expedia, etc...offered. Free parking is available close by, so no need to pay extra for a reserved parking space. We would stay here again because the broad beaches and nearby dunes offer a chill vibe for a relaxing vacation.

Residhome du Theatre

Terrible, never again!

Reviewed By Onlily

Our last day in France we decided to sleep in Valenciennes. We were happy to find there the Residhome, because we liked very much the one in Reims. We booked the studio, for one night the size of this apt was enough. As soon as we entered the room we notice the bed was queen size, what is not a problem for just one night, but the mattress was very deep in the middle, not comfortable at all. We complained with the reception and they offered a larger room, with a king size bed and additional charge. We accepted it and changed. Unfortunately this room was smelling horrible, looked like the last guest had cooked, for one year, every day a kind of oriental food. We opened the windows completely and no way to refresh it. The smell was there!!!! Also the floor was sticking in our shoes when we walked. The kitchen had grease stains everywhere, although we don’t use kitchens it was not nice to looked at every time we passed in front of it. The toilet should had been cleaner, the ceramic sanitary had an dark stain in the bottom giving a bad impression. So many bad things to mention, as well the faucet was loose in the bathtub. This room should be very well cleaned and fixed before giving to the guests. If the staffs knew this room had this bad smell they should not have give us this one. Because when I complained they knew about the last guests in the room. We would like to leave the hotel immediately, but we had paid without cancellation. Never and never again at this hotel. Maybe never again at the Residhome anywhere!!!

Really cute place - very clean, comfy & Helene sends very precise instructions on how to get in to the property as its an unmanned hotel. We stayed in “Royale” - the ground floor studio apartment. A bit of a walk to central Vieux Lille but definitely worth the walk as lots of places to eat & drink.

Booked the Abbey - stayed in a care home!

Reviewed By A327IGlauraw

Where do I even start: We arrived after a very long drive due to fuel price protests. Fires and blockages at almost every roundabout. We walked past the beautiful abbey and checked in at reception in the modern block. The lady didn’t speak a word of English but I can get by with my French. As she was describing the way to the room we thought something wasn’t quite right as she had not told us to go outside. There was a commotion in reception with an older lady but we didn’t think anything of it at the time. As we went to lift there was a book on the side which roughly translated as a brochure for an old peoples residential home! On entering the lift there was a little old man with us wearing his pj’s and walking with a zimmer frame. The “a la carte” menu advertised on the website was shown in the lift and was for a soft diet, soup, quiche and caramel pudding. We got to the room and dumped our bags. We needed to go out for food as the children had not eaten and it was way past their bedtime. On the way out there was no one at reception everywhere was closed. We couldn’t complain about the miscommunication that we were actually in a care home but booked into the beautiful Chateau. We didn’t even have a view of the Abbey out of our window! When we returned back to the room we realised we had one bathrobe, one set of slippers, one bath towel and one hand towel for four people. There was also only two little UHT pots of milk so we had to share a coffee. The room was very clinical, I’m guessing it was ready for a resident to move into and bring all their pictures and ornaments etc. Breakfast was ok but very basic. When I asked for a coffee it came black. When I asked for milk and a cup of tea I was offered a tea bag but no hot water and still no milk. The staff then changed so I’m assuming the message wasn’t passed on. By that time we were joined by 3 elderly residents who were waited on by the staff, nothing was too much trouble for them. We left as soon as we could. As soon as I left I emailed booking.com to complain. The hotel have refused to communicate with them as I didn’t complain while we were there, despite there being no one to complain to! Unfortunately we had to stay as we couldn’t get anywhere else. I’ve added photos- I didn’t take many! You can see the abbey to the left and the care home to the right. Oh there’s also a funeral parlour on site too! I was called 6 days before our stay to say our room was no longer available and I had to book elsewhere. I explained how disappointed I was as I now had to find an alternative stay after having this booked for months. I also explained that the trip was in aid of the anniversary of my mum passing away and it was to make a difficult weekend a little more bearable. They called back 3 days later to say they would honour the booking, unfortunately for us I’m am guessing they didn’t check we were getting what we paid for. The moral of the story is even if the pictures look beautiful- check that is where you’re actually staying!

Great for a weekend stay!

Reviewed By Gill_Iain

Brilliant especially if you are a large group (we were 9) as we rented several apartments in the building. Very centrally located and very clean. We had the 2 bed apartment so used as "base camp" and was big enough for us all to congregate for coffee and croissants in the morning (and cheese and wine in the evening before heading out!). Beautiful views of an old church out the front of our apartment. 2 small downsides are that the building has narrow staircases and no lift - so if you aren't able to carry heavy luggage upstairs you may have a problem as there is no reception or concierge to assist (we were sent door codes before our arrival). This wasn't a problem for us personally but do bear it in mind. Secondly I had a room on the first floor facing out onto the street...generally between midnight and 1am we had a chorus of people on the street outside making a fair bit of noise as the bars closed. Again, no biggie as I put ear plugs in - but again, remember to pack your earplugs just in case. Friends in the other apartments that did not look out to the front did not experience any noise issue. Great value for money and would definitely book again if we visit Lille

Au Coeur du Jardin

In our hearts forever, even after only 2 nights

Reviewed By Tom K

Au Coeur du Jardin was a complete surprise to us as weary travelers. The exterior is typical European frontage, but through the garage and into the garden are 3 luxury accommodations. As a couple, we totally underutilized the 3 bed (1 bath) and kitchenette 2-story unit. The interior decorations need to be enjoyed, as does the garden; but from this location, it is an easy drive to Vimy, or to Ypres, or an easy walk into Lille's old town. We were there for only 2 nights, but could easily picture a 4 or 5 night stay in order to enjoy the amenities, and to undertake more exploration using the exquisite "Au Couer du Jardin" as a home base. Hostess Helen could not have been more helpful in giving advice or assisting with parking (free on the street), but at certain times of the day, this might cause a little delay getting to the suite.

Loved this b&b!

Reviewed By mmhermans

We only visited for one night on our way from Amsterdam to Deauville. We were looking for something funky and we found it! Because we travelled with our 7 month old baby we emailed Christine to ask if we were allowed to stay with babe. She gave us a very warm welcome, we just had to bring our own cot which was fine. It’s not generally a place for kids, more for couples (or maybe friends if you don’t mind sharing a bed, I think all 4 rooms are doubles). She gave us glasses for our wine and was super friendly and accommodating. The beds were unbelievably comfortable and the shower was great, hot and good pressure. Generally the whole b&b is full of amazing stuff and collections. So much to see! Very inspiring. A very nice breakfast was served at a time of our own choice. Coffee, fresh oj, organic breads and homemade jams yummmmm. Would love to come back here and visit Lille.

Okay as some have stated it does need an update but, after this small point nothing wrong here at all, it has everything you need both as a base and a kitchen lounge. The location is perfect for getting in and out of Dunkirk but, for the beach bars and restaurants what an absolute gem. Really other than the shower there is nothing wrong I will definitely be back
