Self-catering apartment rental with a great location. Free Wi-Fi, free parking based on availability, free access to laundry machines during the day.
We stayed 3 nights. The apartment was much bigger than I was expecting, with one of the bedrooms even having a balcony with views to the Hallgrímskirkja. Enormous TV. The kitchen area had all the basic equipment you would need, although some of it had seen better days. The apartment was so warm that even with the thermostat down to it's minimum it was too hot, so we slept with the balcony doors open. There was a bit of street noise as people passed by, but really nothing when you consider how close it is to the centre of Reykjavik. On site parking was an added bonus. It was clean and everyone was friendly. It offered excellent value for money.

Arrived to be informed we had been upgraded from a standard double to a suite! Amazing start to our holiday. The weather was great the day we landed, so walking into the room and seeing the view we had…Wow! Looking right over the bay and mountains. Room was spotless and cleaned every day. Facilities were excellent. Even had coffee and a cafetière. Wasn’t expecting somewhere so reasonably priced and well located to be as nice as it was . Couldn’t have got a better location. We didn’t hire a car, so no issues with parking and I’d read other guests moaning about noise before we booked, but to be honest it wasn’t bad at all and our room overlooked the main street. People are out drinking til 5am on a weekend, but unless you’re a very light sleeper it wouldn’t bother you. We got the the pin for entry in our confirmation email, so had no issue getting in or out plus the reception was staffed 8 til 8. Read that people had trouble getting in, but all I can guess is that they hadn’t read their emails . Considering this place is not a hotel the staff were great and really friendly

Ice Apartments Reykjavik offers a wide range of accommodations in Reykjavik City Centre. Situated on the main shopping street Laugarvegur in the heart of down town Reykjavik. Many of Reykjavik's most iconic sights are within walking distance from the apartments. Harpa Concert Hall, The Icelandic National Gallery, The Althing (The Icelandic parliament) and Reykjavik City Hall are only about 400m away. Hallgrímskirkja, Reykjavik's most iconic landmark is only 600m away.
The information we received was lacking and so we had to hunt for the place since it is located within a city block but does not have an entrance that is visible from the street; you've got to go through a passageway in another building that faces a street in order to reach this place. It was was cheap and clean but visually sterile, like a school dormitory room. The instructions for the television were unworkable. We ended up unable to use it. Likewise for the washer-dryer. The Ikea pictograms didn't enable a trouble-free wash. In the end, it wasn't worth the trouble. We've stayed in other Reykjavik apartments before that were nicer but just weren't available on this trip. We'll avoid this place next time.

Galtafell is located in the heart of Reykjavik, within easy reach of all major activities. Our bright and non smoking suites are comfortably furnished and all have private entrance. Every suite consists of a bedroom, bathroom, living room and a fully equipped kitchen corner. The apartments can comfortably room up to four persons and bed linen and towels are provided. We also offer double or single rooms.
First, the owners were incredible! We changed our reservation dates and room types twice and they were easily accommodated!! However, the studio we stayed in is very different than the photos they advertise as their studio. Still very nice though the bathroom had no ventilation or shower door so the floor became soaked as soon as you showered. The beds were not comfortable at all but it was nice to have a couch and TV to watch. The house itself is beautiful, but if you are in a studio or one-bedroom you do not have access to the house. Instead, you are just off on the side which took away of the reason we booked this place. Overall, a fine experience however I wouldn't stay again.

What a lovely, warm place to "land" after a long trip! We were upgraded from a one bedroom apartment to a two bedroom, but wanted the balcony in which to look out. What a nice thing to do though. It was cozy, clean, and the bed was so comfortable with wonderful pillows and down comforters for both of us. There was a washer and dryer available for use if we needed it as well as cooking utensils, a refrigerator, and microwave. We will definitely stay here again (and again) when traveling to Iceland. It has a terrific location, walking distance to many places to eat and the shore. In fact, we are now calling Alfred's "Our apartment in Iceland", and we mean it!

New Apartment Hotel with 40 beautifully designed rooms and stunning views. All our apartments are with fully equipped kitchen. Great neighbourhood with grocery store, gym, restaurant and much more with in walking distance. We also have a great restaurant in the building. Opened in February 2017
Wont recommend at all,my family came straight from airport to appartement to check which was 3.15 pm ,we had closed door and needed to press button and were given a number to open door inside a phone went ,and we answered new number given for key no person to welcome us,the shower was broke constantly held knob in hands, only 2 pit cooking hob which were so tiny hardly fit a pan on,hardly any utensils,no spatula, dishtowels etc.but worse was no house keeping.we stayed for full 8 days ,never got clean towels offered or checked up for rubbish,we brought our own rubbish down,so we had to use same towels for drying us the week, drying the dishes with and take to local pool, there was a little office down Stairs but always seemed to be closed Also this hotel is very badly located in industrial area, you probably already read this from other reviews but there are no amenities close by as the closest supermarket doesn't open till 11, by this time you want to be up and out not start shopping,so all in all don't stay here, but stay in capital more choice of food, cheaper

Our apartment opened up straight onto the courtyard at the back. During the night there was a fierce storm which caused a temporary power cut. It seems that when the power goes out, the doors unlock and unfortunately we woke up to an open door with wind and snow blowing into our room. As others have mentioned the drains were smelly and our room had the same keycode as the front door which made us slightly apprehensive that all the rooms use the same code!? In the morning we spotted some sort of maggot making their way out of the door frame in the bathroom and there was a really bright light in the ceiling that couldn't be turned off (possible fire alarm). On the positive side its in a great location, there is free parking, it looks recently renovated and the room was reasonably priced. We only stayed 1 night and we were happy to leave.

The room was not finished at all. No list at the floor, The mixer in the kitchen sink has almost fallen out. Bathroom not good at all. Maybe the other rooms are fine. But the stay here was not a pleasant stay. So if I where going to stay in Kópavogur again. I wouldn’t choose this place again.

I stayed here for four nights ONLY because my positive Covid test, the day before my scheduled flight back to the U.S.A., required that I self-quarantine for five days before I could request a "Fit to Fly" Certificate to get on my return flight. Needing to quickly find a place to stay for several nights that was not too far from the BSI Terminal, I felt blessed that this place met my needs at a price that significantly less than other lodgings. Unfortunately, the number of negatives were simply too much for me to ignore. Let me be clear: I am not fussy when it comes to sleeping accommodations. When I do wilderness backpacking, a roof over my head & an outhouse are luxuries for me. I knew this place had shared bathrooms but figured (correctly, I need to emphasize) it would not be a problem for me. First, the positives. Good location in a quiet neighborhood at a budget price. Warm, comfortable beds. Very clean rooms, including all common areas. Excellent wifi. Spotless kitchen had more utensils than I expected, with plenty of refrigerator space for your food; thus allowing you to save on meals. A hair dryer was in the room. Negatives. Unless you are walking along the Snorrabraut sidewalk, with a good idea of where this place is -- it's right behind the bus stop, BTW -- you'll never see its sign. With a lack of street signs in the area, I can't say I'm surprised I got lost trying to find the place. There is no elevator; it was not fun to carry my suitcase up a flight of stairs. Check-in was not till 3pm, and there is no place to safely store your luggage. I've gotten used to mid-afternoon check-ins, but having to sit around till then is also not fun. My room was supposedly designed for four people, but I see no way for more than two people to not trip over each other. The paint on the white table was clearly coming off, and any attempt to move it resulted in its legs falling apart. TV had ONLY Apple TV, meaning you must pay extra for anything you wanted to see. I enjoy watching news & free entertainment, but this was literally impossible. The washing machine was broken while I was there. ANY ability to do laundry is a nice feature, and getting it free is a real treat. But not if it's unusable. My room has radiator heat, meaning you have two choices: lots of heat or none at all. I must state that my biggest negative was lack of communication about getting a room key. All I got was an email message stating "Front door: xxxxxx" and "Room code: xxxxx". I've spent a lifetime training people how to use technology, often after I had to teach myself because of bad instructions, so I'm pretty good at figuring out how to get things to work. And I had no problem getting in the front door. But getting my room key took me almost fifteen minutes because there was nothing more about unlocking the box beyond the above words. I shouldn't have to email a request for instructions when I arrive at a lodging; they should be available before or at arrival. And I never was informed what to do when checking out. Put the key back in the lock box? Leave it in the room? Leave it in the door? Similar lack of instructions on how to use the TV -- I was able to figure this out, even if I concluded that I didn't want to spend $3 to watch 30 minutes of TV. And the dial to get heat from the radiator also had no instructions. Or the dishwasher. Or the laundry room. Yes, I could -- and did -- use email to get answers. But writing out a list of instructions for download would have been a far better choice. If you're a small group who prefers budget lodging without much in the way of help on how to operate things like getting your room key, this is an excellent choice. But if you need a little more, be aware of the potential pitfalls of this place.
