Devon Cottages - The Ultimate in Relaxing Breaks From the wilds of Dartmoor to the wooded hillsides of the Lyn Valley, Devon is undoubtedly one of England's most beautiful counties. Its overwhelmingly rural landscape means that catered accommodation is restricted to over-subscribed Bed and Breakfasts and hotels which are mostly concentrated in towns like Exeter and Barnstaple. Devon is a great location for a family holiday in the great outdoors, with everything from beach resorts at Ilfracombe to rambling in the hills of Exmoor and tors of Dartmoor. It is a large county, but whether you want to follow the Tarka Trail, or walk down the Doone Valley, you can be sure there will be cottages open for holiday rentals nearby. Devon's Cottages, All Mod Cons Most of Devon's holiday rental cottages started as farm buildings of some sort, and planning restrictions mean that many of them retain their rural charm on the outside. However, the cottages are generally renovated to 21st Century standards inside, with double glazing, TV, washing machines and fully-equipped kitchens. Families are well catered for in the higher end properties with games rooms, sometimes including full-size pool tables and large gardens for children to explore. Despite the unpredictability of Devon's weather even during the summer months, the comfort of these properties gives great peace of mind. Moreover, a week's holiday rental of a cottage in Devon can cost as little as £300 - £400. During the peak season you can spend as much as £900 a month for one of the larger or more luxurious cottages, which still works out to be cheaper than a lot of hotels, especially if you have to book several rooms to accommodate a family of four or five. Town Mouse or Country Mouse To get the best of Devon's startling countryside and its friendly communities, renting a holiday cottage near Lynton and Lynmouth can be a good start. It is a useful base from which to explore North Devon, and is within walking distance of several beauty spots, such as Watersmeet (complete with a small but impressive waterfall) and the Valley of the Rocks. Separated by a steep cliff, you can travel up a funicular railway from coastal Lynmouth to clifftop Lynton, with plenty of stunning walks, shopping opportunities and several beaches and boat trips to nearby coastal attractions. The twin villages also boast a concentration of well-equipped holiday cottages, from modest fisherman's cottages on the path to Watersmeet to grander hillside houses on the way to the Valley of the Rocks. Whatever your budget, Lynton and Lynmouth can provide some tempting accommodation options for your first Devon holiday.

Great location and had everything I needed in the apartment. Loved you could bring dogs. Suppling permits to park was a great touch. Felt safe as it was a gated mews. Mary who cleaned the apartments was a lovely lady and took the time to chat to us and make a fuss of Ralph. Would definitely book again. 2 minute walk and you had a fabulous selection of restaurants, bars and convenience stores. Thanks for a wonderful stay

Sunnybeach self-catering holiday apartments are superbly situated on Paignton's sea front. Level walk to the town centre, coach and rail stations. Our holiday apartments are modern and carpeted throughout. Apartments 1, 2, 3 and 6 have wonderful uninterrupted sea views. We are 3 star rated and take pride in assuring you all our units are cleaned and inspected thoroughly before your arrival. Ample free car-parking is available to the front of Sunnybeach. Sunnybeach Apartments are located on Paignton sea front giving guests the convenience of easy access to Torquay, Brixham, Dartmouth, Totnes, Teignmouth, Dartmoor and even our capital city, Exeter. In front of Sunnybeach we have Paignton Green with it's geoplay park and areas for young children to enjoy outdoor pursuits. Paignton Pier has been recently refurbished and stands proudly in our safe bathing sea. Paignton and Torbay offers everything a family needs to enjoy a happy fun-filled holiday.

We stayed here in April in the Lighthouse room - it was lovely with a sea view a small balcony (you cannot sit out but it was nice to have the door open) First the plusses - it was clean and well equipped for two people - the TV had a good choice of channels, the wifi was good, the bed comfortable and the location great with dedicated parking. You could also walk to town and the restaurants and the beach. There are some good pubs in the harbor with views over the water - a great place to sit and have wine. Now the negatives which are easy to improve to get this to 5 star - firstly I guess they need to decide if they are an airbnd or what their target market is - there were no supplies except some sanitizer in the kitchen - it would be nice to have at least coffee for the coffee maker - or a small welcome pack - there was no shampoo or conditioner or soap for the shower (we found a small Premier supermarket in the harbor to get supplies) and to charge 3 pounds extra per person for towels was ridiculous (1 hand towel, 1 bath towel) - put 10.00 on the rate per night and include towels. The bathroom was very small - you could sit on the toilet wash your hands in the basin and have you feet in the shower - there was no place to put washbag or hand towels in the bathroom - a shelf and a couple of hooks would easily fix this. Also the unit is up 2 flights of stairs - dont take heavy luggage. Also check out is 9.30am - hardly time to get up and have a shower and breakfast before you need to leave - most hotels and airbnbs have a later check out time -even 10am would be better. Also the laundry area was closed - not sure why as COVID was over - did we need it - no - but if it is there is should be it open. Overall if in the area again we would stay here and hope next time we can give it 5 stars

Fox House Studios boosts of 41 self contained, studio apartments, perfect for your next “staycation”. The property is set up with a contact fee check in and sanitising stations throughout the whole building. The property is Centrally located and nestles between Drake Circus shopping centre, and The Barbican. The nationally acclaimed Theatre Royal is a 5 minute walk and Plymouth Pavilions just 10 minutes away. Buses run regularly to Dartmoor National Park and we are surrounded by the most breathtaking coastline. There are plenty of Parking options close-by including on the street parking outside Fox House, which is only £2 after 6pm till 8am, or £5 in the Mayflower East Carpark overnight (5 minute walk through the shops). Pretty sweet place to stay

Great location, really clean place, really cute apartment. We stayed in the twin room, nice quirky second level bed, nice neat, clean kitchen. Mattress could maybe do with replacement one of these days, and some of the furniture (kitchen chairs, table) was the cheapest Ikea stuff available, and consequently broke with just me sitting down (also I think someone didn't install all of the screws :-) ) None of this was a big deal, the place was very neat, tidy and obviously cared for. Access was attentive, easy, and painless. Location is this place's biggest plus. I would definitely stay here next time. Well done Foxhouse studios, and thank you.

We have stayed at these apartments a few times and never been disappointed . Phil and Nicola are great hosts , very friendly and just want you to have a wonderful stay . The accommodation is clean spacious and very comfortable . Beds are soooooo comfy and bed linen the best . Beautiful huge soft towels . Hot showers , well equipped kitchen although we didn’t cook anything eating out not bad price for holiday resort . Beach access is literally across the road and it’s a fabulous beach , harbour very pretty . Not sure what else I can say , everything was just PERFECT ❤️❤️❤️ Ann and Chris Hollicomb 4-6 June

We returned to Southover Beach for our 3rd stay - as it was for a special anniversary, we chose the honeymoon penthouse which was fantastic. It’s equipped with everything you could possibly need and has the most fantastic views of the beach. The apartment is spotless. It has French doors leading onto a large decked balcony with a gas bbq( which we made good use of) A spiral staircase leads up to the bedroom - again with French doors with a view to die for, and bathroom. Seamless communication with the owners with regards to keys etc. Will be back again soon- Thank you

just returned from 3 nights over the bank holiday weekend. Apartment 7. Absolutely exceptional, well thought out rooms, stunning garden, fully equipped and some very nice extras to get you started. Comfortable beds with quality bedding and a good finish throughout the flat we stayed in. The hosting was really on point - took considerable time to explain the local area, and made some excellent recommendations (we tried the near buy Indi-Yang and the Drum Inn in Cockington and went down to one of the Fish and Chip shops by the marina - all superb) and gave a full overview of the room and facilities. Will definitely return!

3* Apartment with a 5* view!

The above title says it all really. A 3* apartment with a 5* view! You couldn't fault the location of the apartment but the apartment itself was pretty basic. If you're wanting 'no frills' accommodation at a premium price then this is it! Furnishings a bit dated and bland. The bathrooms were in dire need of a refit. The kitchen was lovely but the instructions for the microwave were obviously for a model which has been replaced and we couldn't work out how to use it! The one thing I can say though is that it was very clean - though it should have been as I did get charged an extra £18 for cleaning! Overall I'd say it was very expensive for the facilities offered. For the price I would have expected the basics to have been provided - this includes soap in the bathrooms. I think they were taking 'self catering' far too literally!!

Pros - great location close to the beach and all bars and restaurants. Clean and spacious apartment, towels and linen provided and beds and pillows really comfy. Loo roll and hand soap provided along with some tea bags etc. Cons - difficult to find…..no signs until you are there! Communal areas felt like a multi storey car park, 3 flights of stairs and lift not working, told of this the day before and then no one to offer any assistance or alternative. Not a problem for us as we are fit but our elderly dog struggled. We were in the rear building so overlooked the building site from one bedroom which seems to have run out of money and unfinished. Balcony was small and had a view of a concrete wall. Balcony chairs had bird poo on and the table hadn’t been cleaned. French doors were corroded and difficult to open. Only a few decent hangers in the wardrobe, the rest were cheap plastic ones. Communal lighting at night was bright….take an eye mask. Overall disappointing and I wouldn’t stay here again. The apartments in the front building looked more finished. I imagine the front ones at the top with an ocean view would be better as long as the lift was working to take your luggage up!

The Torquay Apartments recently opened by Gary & Philip, who also run award winning B & B The Torcroft. Bedford House is ideal self-catering accommodation in a charming setting minutes from Torquay harbour and town centre. Llocated within a Conservation Area, surrounded by mature tropical gardens and a series of terraces, occupying an elevated position overlooking Torwood Gardens a short walk to Torquay's bars and restaurants. From mid-July to the end of August we only offer week long bookings, arrival and departure on Saturday. Bedford House consists of 5 apartments, ideal for individuals, couples and families consisting of; Apartment 1 - 2 guests - 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, lounge and kitchen Apartment 2 - 4 guesst - 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, lounge and kitchen Apartment 3 - 6 guests - 3 bedrooms, 1 babthromm, lounge and kitchen Apartment 5 - 4 guests - 2 bedrooms, 2 ensuites, lounge and kitchen/dining area Apartment 6 - 2 guests - 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, lounge and kitchen Apartments can accommodate children of all ages. We do not charge for infants under 3. Chlldren aged 3 and over require their own bed and count towards the total number of guests on your booking. Dog-friendly policy All apartments are dog friendly and can accomodate a maximum of 2 dogs.

Amazing Apartment

We stayed at the newly refurbished Apartment 2 and it was amazing! It was beautifully furnished and equipped with everything you could possibly need in a self catering apartment. The beds were lovely and comfy to ensure a good nights sleep. The bath towels large and fluffy ( something most hotels struggle to provide) Location was ideal - 5 mins from the harbour, bars & restaurants. I can’t recommend this apartment highly enough. Everything was perfect and we can’t wait to come back again (hopefully soon)
