The 10 Best Concerts & Shows in Zagreb, Central Croatia

October 7, 2021 Matilde Konrad

Zagreb got its start as two medieval fortress towns atop hills overlooking the Sava River, and was reborn in the Baroque period as center of business, perfectly located on routes connecting Central Europe to the Adriatic Sea. These days, Zagreb is the heart of contemporary Croatia’s culture, art, sports, and academics, but its history is not forgotten. The unique blend of medieval towers, 19th century palaces, open-air markets, and ancient cathedrals, make Zagreb the perfect city to explore.

This imposing building sits in the 'Green Horseshoe' area in the centre of Tito Square. The Croatian National Theatre ( Hrvatsko Narodno Kazaliste or HNK ) was built by architects Herman Helmer & Ferdinand Fellner under the Habsburg Empire & inaugurated in 1895. There are 5 theatres to encompass the wide variety of theatrical performances which attract a wide audience. The surrounding area used to be all swampland. HNK is a majestic edifice & its bright yellow ochre colour certainly ensures it stands out.

Swanky Monkey Garden is located in the true heart of Zagreb and offers guests an all in one experience. Its industrial design creates an attractive interior and exterior, cool vibes and a great atmosphere. I discovered the swanky monkey relatively late, after it had become the hit destination in Zagreb and popular place to take photos for instagram story. I was not disappointed. A great place for daily coffee, but also for a Friday nightout. Definitely positive change in Zagreb. I really like the interior, the waiters are quick and kind, the atmosphere is great. Swanky place in full meaning of that word :) Btw mohito is great ;)
