This gorgeous and majestic National Theater was built in the early 20th century, and still retains its elegant charm. Today, its stage hosts classical music, theater and dance performances—and they’re incredibly affordable. If you can’t make one of the performances, at least make time to check out the beautifully restored and preserved space.
We have lived in Panama for 7 years and the Theater National has been closed for renovated twice in that time - not sure why. However, the most recent renovation is spectacular. Just returned from Ballet Don Quixote performance. They have kept all the 1904/1908 aesthetics, and freshened them up. Now it has improved lighting and excellent sound system when needed. NOTE: The "will call" box office for pick-up of tickets is located on the side (right side as you face the theater) under the colonnade. And the Entrance is located on the opposite side entrance(Left side as you face the theater). The main doors at the front are used for exit at the end of performance not entrance- a good idea for more efficient exit of the crowd.
