The 10 Best Classes & Workshops in Granada, Andalucia

August 29, 2021 Ying Subia

The Alhambra citadel of Granada is one of the most famous buildings in Spain: a Moorish fortress with grand archways and delicate ornamental mosaics. Step backwards in time as you wind through the ascending cobblestone streets of Albayzin. You’ll be rewarded with beautiful views from the Mirador San Nicolas. Granada’s nightlife is vibrant and varied, thanks in part to its student population. Hit the bars of Calle Elvira or, for a quieter outing, the traditional tea rooms of La Calle de Las Teterias.

An impressive setting for a school high up in the Sacramonte area of the city with stunning views of the Alhambra. The staff are very professional and welcoming, teaching is to a high standard. I went for a month to have a go at learning Flamenco guitar, Jorge is probably one of the most patient teachers around! In addition the school arranges very informative walking trips around the city and weekly excursions further away. For the final week of my stay the school was "hit" by the imposition of tough measures to combat Covid 19. Although face-to-face lessons were suspended, the staff went to great lengths to provide online lessons via video link for the remaining students, so our learning was not seriously compromised. Well done Carmen de las Cuevas! I hope the situation improves soon so that you can continue to offer great classes in a relaxed and friendly environment,

My family studied at CastiLa this past summer (my husband, myself and our 3 children). It was the perfect atmosphere to learn, grow and experience the Spanish culture in Granada. It is run by an inviting, knowledgeable and fun staff who will come to feel like family by the end. Besides growing in our knowledge of Spanish - we got to experience fun day trips and excursions when we were not in class. No matter where you are from or what level of Spanish you have - you will find the perfect fit at CastiLa. The only negative is having to say goodbye to the teachers and friends you will meet from around the world!

I spent one evening cooking with Guille and it was amazing! It was just 4 of us so the group was small and experience was very cozy and personal! Guille taught us salmorejo, tortillas de patatas (his grandmother’s recipe), TWO types of paella (since I don’t eat sea food- he especially taught me chicken paella), sangria AND cream catellana (like cremeburle). He gave us amazing cooking tips, taught us chopping techniques and then after 3 hours of cooking- we sat down with wine and sangria and enjoyed the delicious food we made. The setting was beautiful in a Gypsy flamenco cave! I would love to come back to learn more dishes from him (esp the gambas) and I would recommend this experience in a heart beat!!! Thank you so much!!! ❤️❤️❤️
