New York State has it all – booming metropolises, majestic waterfalls, mountains, wine country, chicken wings. Yes, NYC is a magnet for tourists, but an exploration of the rest of the state can be equally thrilling. The Finger Lakes Wine Region is a vision of serene waters, quaint B&Bs, and pretty vineyards. Movie buffs will love Rochester, home of the George Eastman House and one of the world’s most comprehensive film archives. On your way to Niagara Falls, stop in Buffalo to fuel up on spicy wings.

This was my first visit to the Civic Center. On the first floor is the Solvay Bank Box Office for purchasing/picking up reserved tickets. Next door is a small refreshment booth, with a much larger booth located on the second floor- a staff member informed that food & drinks are permitted on the balcony level. Restrooms are located on first & second floors. The second floor leads to the balcony & lower floor audience levels. On each side of the upper balcony are six four seat booths. The balcony seating has only a small walkway in front of the folding seats. Every time a person walked in front of my seat, had to stand up. The four seat booth have much space. The Performance: Celtic Woman is composed of four women-three vocalist which can be a single, double or all at once. The fourth woman is a dancing/prancing violinist, who also plays the harp. The women are backed with three male vocalist who also dance with the women & tap dance. Music is provided by one-two drum sets, one-two guitarist, solo flutist, bagpipes & the harp. The sound was excellent. no problem hearing the women's voices or music. Couldn't see any microphones, so the women must haved been wearing a headset microphone. Lighting: One or two large spot lights behind the balcony light center stage with 12-16 lights point straight down onto the stage. Also are side post lights for the stage. Colors were so;id blue, red, green, purple with a mix of gold/yellow. The performance lasted from 7:00 to about 9:30 with a 20 minute intermission. Twenty five songs were performed, that included two solo violinist. The doors from Montgomery Street opened 5:45 to a small outer lobby, while the main lobby opened at 6:00. The stairway is two tiers to the second level, with gate opening at 6:30. Parking was at the On Center Convention lot, at the intersection of South State & Addams Street. Balcony admission was $52.50 with the parking $9.00. Will return in the future factors being the voices, singing, music, lighting & the beautiful gowns worn. A performance is always in mid/late March. A concert is highly recommended. If a person has an ear for Celtic music, they won't be disappointed.
