Virginia can make American history come alive. Visit Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, tour Civil War battlefields, explore the living history museum at Williamsburg… the possibilities are endless (if the kids object, break up the historical sightseeing with a visit to Busch Gardens). Arlington, site of Arlington National Cemetery, is just across the Potomac River from all the major sites in D.C. In addition to beaches and historical attractions, Virginia has plenty to offer outdoor enthusiasts. Active families will love the Blue Ridge Highlands, where hiking, canoeing and tubing are just a few of the activities offered. Couples might enjoy a romantic mountain cabin in Virginia after a day of hiking in Shenandoah National Park.

This evening tour was a highlight of our recent visit to DC. Eddie knows the landscape and history intimately and covers both with wit, wisdom and personality. His detailed discussion of the Sept. 11 plane attack on the Pentagon and nearby neighborhood as we circled the area was something I’ll never forget. This is a smaller more intimate “insider” tour with better access than the big-bus tours. Visiting the capital and WH Christmas trees was a bonus on our tour. The ride back to the hotel after the tour was also much appreciated. Highly recommend this tour.

The Korean Memorial was my favorite, but Tom did a great job with all of the monuments. Our friends had been on Tom's tour before but he added a different monument for them to see. His knowledge of everything concerning the monuments and the city made the tour special for all of us - two VA residents, one frequent visitor to DC and a newbie who had never visited DC before. We had such a great time we booked an additional tour with DC Military Tours & Tom.

Oleta is a spectacular company. Thoughtful, courteous and joyful in their approach to getting you from where you are to where you need to be (and back). Safety is very important to them and they are experts in navigating their large vehicles around busy streets and highways, but you are also likely to leave your experience with a new friend or two at the company. Our children's school has been using Oleta to facilitate class trips for over 15 years and wouldn't consider using anyone else.

We were back to D.C. celebrating our 55th wedding anniversary (there on our honeymoon) and decided this time to take a small group tour. Most visits we have stayed in the National Mall area. It turned out that we were the only ones on the tour and Brian went overboard to make our trip enjoyable and informative. He had little stories to go along with every place we visited and even though we have visited numerous times he pointed out things we never had seen or knew about. With only the two of us, you might think he would hustle us along but no he spent as much time as we would like at each site visited. If you are only going to be in D.C. for 3-4 days I would strongly suggest you start your first morning with Brian (Bi-Partisan Tours) as you will get a wonderful overview allowing you to spend more time at individual attractions. As the title states Brian was one of the best guides we have ever had and we have travelled to numerous states and countries. Thanks Brian for a special morning. Andy & Kathy
