Izola has rich history and it is often overlooked, but this hidden gem will surprise you with the greenery, friendly people and rich history. Local licensed guide will explain you interesting history, tell you about the fishery, which was the most important engagement for centuries and you will also hear the stories, which are still living in between the narrow streets of the center.

So we planned a stop in Trieste on our way from Venice to Split, Croatia. We knew a little. The city was the home of Chef Lydia Bastianich and many national flags flew there over the centuries. It turned to be a wonderful surprise. We found beautiful architecture, wide streets, reasonable prices, friendly people and even more complex history than we had imagined. Helping us sort through the centuries of politics, wars, occupations and developmnets was our guide Demian Sem. He was wonderful. Demien is a Slovenian (next door to Trieste) and explained how Slovenia, Venice, Italy, the Hapsburgs, Ottomans, Romans, Italian Fascists, NAZI's, WWII and others figured in the city's history. Demien punctuated his narrative with personal anecdotes and the local color you can only see with a native. He explained the more interesting architecture, buildings, their significance and their role in the city's history, economy and culture. He also has a great sense of humor and managed to entertain us on a personal level as well. We like to use local guides, especially on 1st visits. Damien not only met our expectations, he exceeded them on every criteria. If you book a local tour ask for Demian Sem. You will benefit from his extensive knowledge and interestig delivery.

The full day was great in whole. The caves are beautiful-definitely a sight you should see. There were a lot of students on trips but it's fine because you get put into a group with your own language guide. Horses are breathtaking and the history is interesting I wish we went on a day where the horses were "working" meaning you could ride them. We went on a Monday so that is the resting day for the Lipica horses-they train and trot all other days. Despite that, we had a lovely tour of the farm and interacted with the horses in their stables and learned about these unique majestic creatures. Pick up and drop off was right on time - car was comfortable and our guide found a good place for us to have lunch before taking us back into Trieste

A city where the Italian culture meets the architectural style of the Habsburg Monarchy. Have a cup of coffee on Piazza Unita, which is known to have one of the best that you can find in Italy. Not a surprise, since Illys headquarters are located in Trieste. A short stop at the picturesque castle of Miramar, where the Austrian Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian was spending his free time.

They agreed to take me even though i was the only one signed up for the tour . The transport was a very clean and comfortable Mercedes people carrier. The guide , Vladimir was a real character. Talked a lot and made los of jokes . Also retrieved my hoody hen I nearly left it behind The caves and castle were both very impressive - although both had a lot of other visitors so was quite busy
A Central European city, where you will breathe a multicultural atmosphere, which will charm you with historic cafés, art, heterogeneous architecture and enchanting sea. Trieste is a unique city for both its geographical location on the border between different nations in an enclosed area between the karstic plateau and the Adriatic Sea, and the historical events that interested and influenced it over the years from cultural and architectural point of view. Miramare Castle, above the sea, is the first glance that you have coming in Trieste driving along the panoramic coastal road. Castello di Miramare This majestic white castle, the beloved home of Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Habsburg (brother of Emperor Franz Joseph), overlooks the sea and is surrounded by a huge park full of rare and exotic tree species collected by the Archduke himself in his scientific expeditions around the world aboard the frigate Novara. Duration: Approx. 5 hours up to your wishes
