At the westernmost point of the African continent, Dakar stands as a multicultural, diverse city full of vibrant arts and traditions. Residents from various ethnic groups present assorted crafts, foods, jewelry, fabrics and wood and metal goods at bustling markets such as Marche Sandaga or Marche HLM. The city is home to museums and mosques, cliff walks and beaches, and makes a convenient jumping point for excursions to any of Senegal's national parks and nature reserves.

We had Mika Guisse as our tour guide during our entire 2021 Senegal and The Gambia trip. He was magnificent. He is so knowledgeable, patient and informative. He made sure our group got to experience so much more than what we would have on our own or with another tour guide. He got us to Goree Island, Kunta Kinteh Island, a Fulani Village where we were welcomed and got to meet the Chief, The Museum of Black Civilization, The Renaissance Monument, Senegalese wrestling, ATV riding and so much more. He even took us to the clinic to get our mandatory COVID-19 test which was needed to travel between Senegal and The Gambia and then back to the clinic to get the test again which was needed to travel back to the US. And the cost for the test was so inexpensive, we really got a bargain. He also took us to the marketplace to do some last minute shopping before our flights back home. We felt so safe with Mika because everywhere we went, everyone knew and respected him. Our group nicknamed Mika the Mayor of Dakar. Any questions you have about anything in Senegal or The Gambia, Mika is the best person for answers. Do yourself a favor and book with Mika and his team.

First of all I want to say that my family & I will definitely be coming back next year to use this same travel company. We've been to Senegal once before without the kids & we we're overpriced. Which apparently happens quite often to first time visitors. So this time I made sure I booked our tour guide with great caution. After comparing prices with this company & the others there, I found this one to tremendously beat the others. But then when it comes to the service. My husband says it honestly can't be compared to any other tour guide experience we've had. I'd have to agree. They were very kind & very knowledgable. Had plenty of ideas & activities for us to do with & without the kids. They were even quick to respond to our questions & concerns we had. Meeting with Abdou was like meeting with an old friend. You can just feel when a person is genuinely happy to do what they're doing & that's what we felt from him. Thank you so much Makaya Travels. My family looks forward to having your exceptional service again soon.

The trip to the museum and the Renaissance monument were outstanding. Although I was a bit reluctant to climb the 210 stairs....I did it...I felt so proud of myself as I came down the 210(420) total....I would have enjoyed more time at the museum...but I do plan for another trip to Senegal. We toured not only the tourist spots, but we explored the food and cultures of the people. The tour was really and enrichment for me. Our trip was in March 2020 pre-Covid

As you choose this tour, the number one thing on your mind is: why should I use this GUIDE instead of the others? Well, I have lived in the USA for over 12 years and all of my tours are SOLELY conducted in ENGLISH. It is not easy to really experience Dakar on your own. You may take a standard city tour. Sure, you will see a lot but, in all probability, the Dakar experience will escape you without the expertise of a knowledgeable guide to show you the hidden spots. As I take you on this popular tour combination, my whole goal is not to make you love DAKAR the way I do, but to make you understand it in order to turn your visit into a long-lasting memory. However, you cannot visit Dakar without seeing Goree island. The last place African Slaves saw before being shipped across the ocean never to return. A visit to the Door-Of-No-Return in the Slave House will give you a sense of why GOREE is the most visited place in the country. PS: REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR PASSPORT WITH YOU.

I have been to other slave ports and castles, but this one was particularly special . " I realized as i stepped into the door of no return that this is where my ancestor stepped before being forced unto a SLAVE ship headed to the Americas. . IT WAS A PROFOUND MOMENT AND REALIZATION OF THE PAST CONNECTING TO THE FUTURE AND HOW IMPORTANT IT IS FOR US TO DISCOVERY /LEARN OUR HISTORY.
