The 10 Best City Tours in Cyclades, South Aegean

November 3, 2021 Milan Banda

The Cyclades is a group of Greek islands with beautiful, white sandy beaches, rugged mountains and lush valleys. Glamorous Santorini and Mykonos attract the jetset, while lesser-known isles, such as Milos and Naxos, are the perfect places for beach lovers. Ruins, including the 11th-century Dorian settlement and volcanic ash-preserved Ancient Akrotiri in Santorini, amaze those with a bent for ancient history. Sifnos' cuisine wins it admirers. Hydrofoils, ferries and catamarans connect the islands.

If you are staying in Santorini and you would like to see the best of the south of the island, this tour is ideal for you. South of the island includes some of the major attractions, places of archaeological interest and lovely villages. Take a tour with one of our licensed local guides that can guide you also inside Akrotiri!. Akrotiri which is one of the most stunning archaeological sites in the world! This remarkably well-preserved ancient Minoan city was buried by a volcanic eruption 3,600 years ago. Archaeologists discovered at the site pottery, furniture, advanced drainage systems, and three-story buildings. Many believe the disaster and the site itself were the inspiration behind Plato’s story of Atlantis.

We were in Santorini for one day and wanted to make it count. We booked with Kostas because he was recommended by some other people who had taken the Celebrity cruise we were on. I communicated via email with Kostas about some things we wanted to make sure we did on our private tour, mainly the ancient ruins of Thira. Kostas went out of his way to make the trip memorable for us. He is an expert on Greece culture and any question we asked him was answered with complete history. I highly recommend him for any tour of Santorini. If its not on his website, just ask him and he will make it happen.

Look no further, if you are looking for safe, reliable transportation and knowledgeable guides. George is amazing! I was injured during a previous trip (Greece was our last stop) I needed medical care and George went out of his way to get me the help I needed while still making sure my group was able to go on with the scheduled tour(I was with a large group). George personally took me to the doctor, he was kind enough to take me out to dinner after the doctors visit and show me what Athens and the Greek culture are all about, he was very patient and ever so kind. I recommend George’s minibus tour, he showed me a good time considering I had a bad knee injury. I highly recommend George to anyone looking for excellent service and a memorable time. George is professional, smart and knows what he’s doing. Thank you for a most enjoyable and memorable trip to Athens!!!! ευχαριστώ

Had a great trip. The food served was excellent for this type of trip. Barbecued prawns and Greek salad plus a few extra options. The views on the trip were excellent and the crew were amazing. Our original trip was cancelled due to some thunderstorms but the team helped us fit the trip in before our flight which was hugely appreciated and the kind of customer service which makes it an easy trip to recommend.

The experience of touring the island of Santorini is not just a simple travel service. There are many factors that may have unexpected influence to your mood or program if you don't know how to face up all those circumstances. 1) Our minivan and transport vehicles are surely the most newly and luxury in the island! 2) Santorini island is full of travelers, travel vehicles and more for specific times during the day. This was our second time in Mykonos as this was a stop on our Mediterranean cruse. So instead of booking a shore excursion, we just walked around the port area, shopped, and had some snacks and a drink. It's a lively place in high tourist season.

My son, daughter-in-law and I had booked a 14-day private tour of Athens, Crete, Santorini, Milos and Naxos with Private Tours Greece from May 1-14, 2020 and made a 30% down payment by credit card on 02/06/2020. All interactions with Private Tours Greece went smoothly and were professional and friendly. Then, due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and my son's illness, on 03/13/2020, well ahead of the deadline for a fully-refundable cancellation, I asked Private Tours Greece to release all reservations it had made on our behalf, but to hold my deposit, in the hope that we might be able to reschedule our trip later in 2020 or in the spring of 2021. Private Tours Greece complied with my request and issued a credit voucher for the down payment I had made. As the pandemic continued to surge and Greece remained closed to visitors from the United States, on 4/17/2021, after essentially extending an interest-free loan to Private Tours Greece for over a year, I requested that my down payment be fully refunded and credited to the same credit card account to which it had been charged. Thereupon, Private Tours Greece staff claimed that the request for refund had been "forwarded" ... as it turned out later, to Alpha Bank. Nothing happened for a week. I then engaged in repeated e-mail exchanges with Private Tours Greece staff, only to be subjected to a stream of equivocations, obfuscations of the facts, and invalid excuses, including a claim that Private Tours Greece was doing me a favor by agreeing to a refund because the Greek government had allegedly given it the option to hold my funds indefinitely. I then contacted the general manager of the company, who sent me what purported to be a Greek language request to Alpha Bank (that I was unable to read) to issue the refund, along with further invalid excuses, never responding to my complaint that Private Tours Greece was in breach of its contractual obligation to issue a full refund of my down payment, not to mention doing the honorable thing, i.e., issue an immediate refund from an account he controlled directly, rather than blaming Alpha Bank for the delay by claiming that it "required" 10-15 "working" days to complete the request. Even that outlandishly ridiculous period has now expired! A complaint I submitted to Alpha Bank has received no response to date. It has now been nearly a full month since my refund request of 4/17/2021, and I may have to initiate legal action against Private Tours Greece ... with all the complexities and additional outlays and delays that would involve ... in order to reclaim my funds. The lesson to be learned here is that Private Tours Greece cannot be counted upon to honor its promises and contractual commitments. If there is any chance at all that you may have to cancel your trip, STAY AWAY!
