Just as in the Catholic Church wooden gold guided altars were changed when a new art style became fashionable, the icons were changed in the Orthodox and frescoes painted over to make room for better executed ones. Inside the church there are some first frescoes preserved and the differences in style are quite notable. Some wall frescoes and icons are being repaired so on wall is completely concealed by scaffold, meaning some items mentioned on the audio guide are out of sight,

Once used for coronations, this Cathedral Square church is notable for its five golden domes and numerous windows, and contains the wooden coronation throne built for Ivan the Terrible.

Another fabulous church at the Kremlin. Gorgeous inside, no photography. Plenty to see, it is free entry so gets quite busy, worth it though.
