Life on the Big Island is a little bit slower… and locals like it that way. The natural beauty and ecological features of the island are a draw for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Test your chutzpah at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, home to the longest volcanic eruption in recorded history, or climb to the indescribably beautiful summit of Mauna Kea. At the end of the day, there’s nothing more refreshing than a quivering plate of fresh poke, followed by a fruity shave ice.

We stopped in for Christmas Mass while visiting VNP. The congregation was very welcoming and made us feel right at home. We were given a shell lei at the beginning of service, and after the service while we took a few pictures fellow parishioners came up and welcomed us, helped us take pictures and a little girl even gave our son a candy cane. Upon leaving the priest, stopped what he was doing to come over and wish us well. Could not have been a better Christmas experience for my family.

We enjoyed a wonderful homily by the deacon and fabulous singing by the choir. We felt very welcome!

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Hawi, North Kohala, is an historic parish in the West Hawaii Vicariate of the Catholic Diocese of Honolulu. The parish campus includes an architecturally remarkable historic church, a rectory, a church cemetery, and a parish hall.
Times for Mass and other services are on their website. The church is on the main highway but slightly set back, smaller sign. Plenty of parking.
