I had the distinct pleasure of visiting the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception after 25 years. The cathedral had been completely renovated and decorated. Although two of the beautiful stained glass windows were out for restoration, the interior is beautiful with its towering ceiling, murals, statues, marble floors, gleaming mahogany pews. The Mass was beautiful, as well as the choir with its resounding organ. A real sentimental and beautiful experience to attend Mass there. We were excited an adult baptism, First Communion and Confirmation of a young man was celebrated during the Mass. The exterior of the church with its huge columns, and gold domed roof, beautiful garden and entry, along with the park across the street with beautiful three tiered fountain, and a unique ornamental iron trimmed gazebo was an added treat. I could not have been more pleased to see the cathedral after all these years.

St. Bernard Abbey is a community of Benedictine monks, established in 1891. Today, after over 125 years of work and prayer, St. Bernard Abbey stands as a vibrant and growing monastery, known with affection and respect for the role it continues to play in the life of the Church in North Alabama. From the abbey’s foundation, the monks’ primary apostolate has been their school, known presently as St. Bernard Preparatory School, a coeducational boarding school. Additionally, the monks pastor several parishes in the Diocese of Birmingham. On campus, the monks also operate a retreat center, serving the needs of pilgrim groups and individuals. Many know the abbey as the home of the Ave Maria Grotto, a garden of shrines and miniature models of famous religious sites created by Br. Joseph Zoetle, O.S.B. Finally, there are monks engaged in various crafts and the manual tasks necessary for the operation of their more than 850-acre property, including its farm, buildings, and grounds.

If your schedule matches with the schedule of the custodian of this church, you MUST stop and see this church. The mosaics are amazing and totally unexpected. The history of this Greek community and their journey is culturally important to the region. Make sure you visit here and see inside.

We attended worship on Sunday of MLK week-end. We are United Methodist, so we sort of knew what to expect, but really anyone could feel comfortable at this church service. It is a very welcoming, open congregation. As we United Methodists say, we are "open doors, open minds, open hearts". The pastor was excellent and the music was traditional. There is a lovely pipe organ and the woodwork and stain-glass windows are spectacular.

Our tour group visited this church while in the area. It was really a welcomed respite in the middle of a busy touristy day. While there we played the piano and sang and just enjoyd the calm. The history of the building of the church is moving and I was impressed to know that worship is still held there each Sunday. Where the visit.

We went to celebrate Sunday mass earlier in March and drove from near Ft Morgan. It was definitely worth the drive. What a lovely church and the priest was excellent. There was plenty of parking. Would definitely return if in the area.
