The hotel is historical and good for events but not ideal if no car! I stayed at the hotel as it is close to another castle for a ball during the weekend. It turned out it takes VERY long time for taxi to show up, ranging from 15 minutes to 40 minutes of waiting. I wasted a lot of time just for taxi which is also costly. Every time I called the taxi company where was my car, they always say “10 minutes or any minute”. I was very angry to eventually waited for 40 minutes. I should stay in Hague. For dining it is located in the basement, not in the main floor. I have stayed at many castles and manor houses. This was first time to dine in the basement restaurant. It was also fully booked. Even though we were staying at the hotel, we were not able to have dinner here. We had to book dinner at another hotel, which took 2 more taxi trips. Waiting and waiting. Enough is enough. Never again.

This Castle is well preserved and restored. The original owners played an important role in the 80 year war (1568-1648) the Dutch fought against the Spaniards. Furniture and paintings are well worth the visit and so are the gardens and smaller buildings (a.o. the "Mint").

Slangenburg Castle is an impressive historic building, worth a visit. Many nice photo's can be taken, but a life saver was the cafe on the forecourt. The weather was mild for March and the outdoor tables were served by a polite and dedicated waiter. The latte macchiato and the delicious chocolate cake were well appreciated by me. A nice sit down in a historic environment. To be revommended.

This active working castle was a short walk from our lodgings in nearby Ellecom. They are open for tours on Sunday at 1:30 and 3 during July and August: 9 euros (for castle and gardens) or 6 euros (for garden). We planned to participate in the 3:00 tour but showed up late and missed our opportunity. TIP: BE ON TIME, this location runs a tight schedule! Despite missing the inside of the house we were still able to walk the grounds, observe a variety of gardens, and enjoy a beverage at the adorable coffee shop located on the grounds. We were also able to see the count and his dog! In addition, there is a Bed and Breakfast located on the grounds and the locals we were with recommended the Christmas market in December.

Everything was perfect from the first contact with the host to the very last minute of our staying! The Castle itself is simply amazing, but I must say that Joris (the Duty Manager) gave a special touch to the whole experience: from the tips about places to visit around the area to the extra care when organising dinner and breakfast... everything was exceptional! Not to mention the apple juice... best one ever! It's a must stay... highly recommended! Looking forward to staying here again soon!

The complex is located in the middle of farmlands on the edge of Valkenburg and has a lot to offer. For companies who wish to meet, for guests who want to explore the south of Limburg, or who want to enjoy the cosy town of Valkenburg, for guests who want to experience the atmosphere of times gone by, for Lovers who are going to mary or for people who organize a party. In short, something for everyone. The complex consists of the castle, the Carriage House, the outbuilding called "Tiendgebouw" and the Gatehouse. In the Carriage House are the cosy apartments and in the "tiendgebouw" the stylish hotel rooms, the Gatehouse has a brasserie and the Castle is a private house. Hospitality is our top priority, you will feel at home at Castle Schaloen.
We had a nice stay at the castle, enjoying the surroundings and the beautiful terrace. The rooms were however a bit old fashioned and could use some renovation, but the price was like a 5 star hotel. It's okay, I hope the owners will do their best to update the rooms and its furniture and bathroom some time in the near future.

Had a lovely stay in the tower! Great service of the host! Thuis hotel offers just 10 rooms, but all are great! No restaurant but just breakfast, very well taken care of. There are three restaurants moments away And many more at 10 minutes driving.

I am writing in English just in case some foreign visitors are interested in staying in this unique bed and breakfast. ;) As apposed to many castle hotels who offer rooms and where you end up in a near building or the carriage house, most of the rooms in this bed and breakfast are in the castle itself. Another plus is that they are rooms with a theme. Not the garish kind, but very tasteful, based on art- or historic styles. If you book through their own website you can choose the room you want. I did it that way because through other lager booking sites one can only book a certain type of room but not choose a particular one. However with my booking it turned out that the system was faulty and had only calculated one breakfast. When I confirmed arrival time as requested the owner explained that to me. The fault was not of the kind that I suddenly had to pay more then expected since the total was still the one I saw when booking, but somewhere between booking and the finalization the program had lowered the price (charging only one breakfast) When arriving on the time we had indicated it was not clear were we had to announce our arrival. We first rang the bell at the castle but when that did not work out and we saw light at the carriage house we knocked there. The host was there and directed us to the library/salon of the castle and offered us coffee or tea while we waited for the hostess to arrive. (she was the one who normally received guests) We had to wait for about 20 minutes. The lady graciously brought us to our room en showed were everything was. We stayed in the van haeften room, which was much more spacious then expected. The toilet and separate bathroom were private (as is not always with other castles) but across the hall (but we knew that in advance since I had asked, so it was not a problem) Unfortunately we stayed only 1 night and it rained so we did not have the opportunity to see the gardens or test the outside swimming pool. But the castle and it public spaces were clean and stylish. One could sit in the library and read and drink coffee or tea, or go to the simple bar in the cellar and write down what one drank (that would be added to the bill). We did not do either since our dinner in the nearest village took long and we were very tired so we went to bed early. The breakfast the next morning was in the cellar of the castle. I must admit that I have an extremely sensitive nose (the kind that is handy if one smells a gas leak no one else has noticed but is a nuisance in most other cases) and the lower levels of the castle had, for me, a musty smell (that is probably not to be helped with older buildings) The breakfast was set up in a small buffet (there were more guests so I don’t know if that is also done with less guests) The fruit, buns and cold cuts were luxurious (not the cheap kind) but present in low amounts (probably to keep things fresh and they were to be refilled when needed ) But I unfortunately could not find anything sweet anywhere (no jam, peanutbutter, chocolate sprinkles etc) So in all we had a very good stay and can really recommend this unique bed and breakfast

" Winding paths on a site of many centuries past, the elegance of the swans adorn the castle moat with their presence, the wooded area and a garden design that embodies the spirit of the famous landscape architect Peter Lucas Roodbaard. In the center of this elegant environment is the castle located , where the stories of more than six hundred years of Dutch history houses. Explore the grounds and walk in the footsteps of Bommen Berend and Count Adolf of Nassau. The Wedderburcht is primarily a children's hotel , a special holiday for children who were born on the other side of happiness . " Also weddings , meetings , family gatherings , private dining with your group and presentations ; it's all possible at the Castle. The hotel consists of two rooms and a common living room , fully equipped ; comfortable beds , flat screen TV and whirlpool are just a few of many amenities. Bourtange fortress can be reached by car in just 15 minutes. The center of Groningen is a 45 minutes drive away and offers many attractions such as the Martini Church, a 40-minute drive to Leer in Germany. To get a complete impression of the castle , we invite you to navigate our site .
Free parking and only a short walk to the burcht. You can do a short walk around the premises, nice views over the fields as well and plenty of places to sit in the sun. A bridge takes you onto the “hotel” grounds. Nice to check out when in the area i think.

Slot Doddendael is Medieval castle, nearby Nijmegen. In the castle you can find a restaurant, two hotel rooms but it is also an event-location for private parties, weddings or business events.
What a surprise was awaiting me at this hidden treasure, not far from Nijmegen. The castle-like venue is hidden in a small village where you can explore nature and sit at the shore of the river Waal. This 'slot' is a privately owned place where i rented the suite for 1 night, which is located above the office, in a separate building from the slot itself. The car can be parked in a private parking spot, just outside the gate. The suite is equipped with all the amenities comparable to a five-star hotel-room. It is spacious and very comfortable. And boy: they bring up the breakfast for you and I have never seen a breakfast like this in my life brought to my room. The coffee and tea maker in the room just complete the sense of total luxury. It was a fastastic stay in a beautiful area of Gelderland.
