A wonderful experience, palaces, wonderful gardens, etc etc. take time to explore, best on your own ... book online the general day pass on the official Alhambra site (well in advance/months before you plan to go, as they are sold out fast) and take the time to enjoy the vast „Alhambra sight in the different day lights. Take Buslinie C32 and C 31 to get to the main entrance of the Alhambra ( Tickets 1,40€/person, available on the bus), it is quite a steep walk from the city center...

We got up here using the hop on hop off red bus tour, you can walk up but that didn’t look like much fun. It cost a couple of euros each to get in. All the signs / info is in Spanish so I can’t tell you much about it’s history, there is a small museum in the middle with a variety of exhibits & some fantastic model soldiers to see. We went for the views & were not disappointed. Worth the entrance price for that. Had a beer whilst looking out over the harbour, all very nice. Watch your feet though, some of steps are at really odd heights & some of the cobbles could be “trippers”. Spent a very pleasant hour up here.

Alcazar of Segovia

Fortress of the Kings of Castile and Royal School of Artillery Its picture has been around the world: a unique fairy tale-like palace that brings together architectural tastes of different monarchs. It tells -to all those who come to know it- ancient palatial stories. Austere, as they were the Castilian kings, raised on the rock at the confluence of the valleys of the rivers Eresma and Clamores, the Alcazar seems to watch over the city. Its beautiful Tower keep, often compared to the bow of a boat sailing between the two rivers, is of a stunning beauty. Tourists are amazed to realize that the fortress is a living part of this Castilian city, chosen as a place of residence for many of the monarchs of the Trastamara dynasty.

Our tour guide took us here to this city, a UNESCO site, for a tour which included this beautiful castle in Segovia. It is said that Walt Disney used this castle as well as the Neuschwanstein castle in Germany as his inspiration for the castle at Disneyland, and we could see why! It is built high on what seems like a huge rocky formation with sheer dropoffs on many of the castle sides. The day we were there and outside looking over the edge, a sharp wind came up along with rain, and we had to be careful not to get blown away! We heard that they often have to close the terrace due to the high wind possibly blowing people over the edge down many feet below!! It is a great place to visit, and well worth the hour or so drive from Madrid.

Walking up from the Hotel Emporda is a treat in itself. There is a 3.5km footpath all around the perimiter of the fort. Well worth the walk with marvellous view. Tak water, the walk lasts around 60 to 90 minutes depending on how often you stop. DIRECTIONS - go to the Hotel Emporda - take the road opposite and follow to the top. At the top there is a T junction - turn left - follow the road then dirt track up the hill. You come out at the car park / main entrance. Lovely healthy walk

Castle Of Lorca

The Castle of Lorca is the hallmark of the city, symbol of power and the incessant struggle between the Nasrid kingdom of Granada and the Crown of Castile. The castle-fortress is a place where history is lived first hand through exhibitions, workshops for the whole family, guided tours and extraordinary activities throughout the year. In this space, Ben Sakar (the Hawk's Son), the virtual mascot of the castle will show you scenarios as emblematic as the walls, the stables, the cisterns, the Tower of the Spur, the Tower Alfonsina or the Jewish Synagogue.

Reviewed By T2246HNmelissar - Kellyville, Australia

A wonderful place to visit, we went for the longer tour and enjoyed seeing the Jewish Synagogue as part of this trip.
