The palace is located in the Plaza Mayor, presiding over access to the Clos de la Vila. It consists of three towers and was built in three phases between 1471 and 1610 on walls of the thirteenth century. It is the most unique and emblematic building in Albaida, symbol of the old feudal power, now transformed into a public space since it was acquired by the city council in 1992.

The castle is the reason to visit Xativa!
If you enjoy military architecture and commanding views, don't miss coming here. A lot of work had gone in to restore the walls, the grounds and the numerous buildings spread across the plateau of the Vernissa hill and the heritage left behind by the many temporal powers that ruled over this place is well preserved. The only disappointment was the lack of information in the English language. It's hard to see the logic behind this when the site is promoted online in English by the Xativa Tourist Board.

I found the palace by chance and, even I had to have a reservation they let me in. The tiket is 2€ and worth all the money. It is a relativlly new renovated but it is a jewel of its kind. The restauration was performed in a profesional way and you can feel that from the very begining. As there are only guided tours, we were lucky and found a really profesional and dedicated guide. The detailes in the arab part of the castle are impressive. If you are in the surroundings don't miss it. It worth the effort but be aware - you need reservation.

We spent a couple of hours visiting this nice castle and the church next to it. You can have a coffee while admiring the views of the entire city and the beach. It's well worth the effort climbing the steep hill (better go by car!).
