Chill Common Area & Central Location
Reviewed By chel_and_the_seaI have mixed feelings about la Y Griega. On the positive side of things, I appreciated free wifi, chill hangout area to eat and relax, nice garden area, Hostal cats, central area (away from the bustle of Bocas Town, but on the street that splits between goingto Drago Beach or up the coast to Bluff beach, with good swimming beach nearby), no smoking allowed in common area, decent price ($30 for private room), and an outdoor shower in the garden. On the negative side of things, the hostal felt very dirty to me, near the lodging area the house smelt strongly of humidty/mold, and very morning in the communal kitchen, rat/mice poop was everywhere(!!!!!) on the kitchen surfaces, even on some of the tables in the common room. I also saw bread and other food completly nibbled at. Based upon this, I decided to keep my food in my room in a box. The hostal should invest in some plastic containers to allow people to store their food so that it is not tempting for rats/mice. They should also make this problem known to those currently staying there (although if you're an early riser its quite obvious based upon the amount of dropping found in the kitchen).

I chatted to the manager even at night without problems. my family and I had a great time here. it is highly recommended!. WE WOULD BE BACK , absolutely!.

Reviewed By BackPacker798159My husband and I work online so good internet is vital. The connection was fast and reliable and free. The hotel was very pretty. It has a boquete feel to it. The furniture was very beautiful. The woman at the check-in was very friendly and helpful. No complaints here :)

Warning food poisoning
Reviewed By DennisUser01The place is nice even if I have seen nicer and more welcoming ones in Panama. If you are willing to stay there, don’t eat at the restaurant. We had a food poisoning and “fun” in the bathroom for two days. The staff didn’t care and said, it could be a virus. Maybe we had bad luck with the food. I would recommend to skip the place.

Paradise!!!
Reviewed By 808303It's paradise on earth!Stayed there for 4 nights in a wooden cabaña 3 meters from the sea. People are nice, meet some great people from all over the world, had campfires on the beach. The Guna people are very nice and sweet, the food is simple but delicious.One night we ordered lobster wich was amazing and cost only 20$ per piece. A must. Don't stay only one night.

Our twenty private rooms include 10 walk-in cabin style tents on a beautiful covered platform set above a river cliff, 5 private 2nd story rooms for 2 to 8 people, and 5 thatch teepees. All rooms have modern beds with hypoallergenic sheets and our maid services cleans them daily. With our restaurant, full bar, tour guide and transportation services, we make experiencing the rainforest more comfortable than ever! Google our 5 star reviews. We are located in a hidden river valley only 1 hour from Panama City.

Reviewed By Dan00000000We had the whole house (cabin) nice views of the volcano Great weather and great place to relax. A bit outside of town but for us it was worth it. You will need a car for this location and if you are into luxury don't go.

Reviewed By travelblomThe cabins are new, fully equipped kitchen and perfect bathroom. Coffeemaker with filters and enough pots and pans, plates and cutlery. The location is stunning!! Because of the strong winds that can occur it isn't possible to have outside furniture and inside is not enough room for a sofa so the seating arrangement isn't very comfortable but the house, the terrace and the bed certainly are. With the second bedroom being in a loft with a steep ladder going up and only a curtain between this and the other bedroom we didn't think it was suitable for 4 -elderly-adults (not relatives). We decided to stay in 2 separate cabins and that worked fine. For a family with children it would be perfect. The host and his family are very friendly and will assist wherever possible. We highly recommend this place!

Majestic setting with stars and fireflies!
Reviewed By David MThese are wonderfully quaint cabins nestled in the jungle mountains near Bocas. They make a great stop en route to or from the Caribbean, and would also be enjoyable for an extended stay. The host "Alex" (who speaks good English) is very welcoming and will drive you up the dirt road to your cabin and arrange meals for you in their small cafe. They also have special tours, which we did not have time to take advantage of. This is also a great backpackers' destination, since a larger group could really save money renting one of these cabins, since they contain so many twin beds. All told, this is a perfect stop for couples or larger groups looking for a rustic and atmospheric setting in Panama's lush wilderness.

What I want to highlight the most is the restaurant which has changed owners and is now excellent. We ate 3 times at this restaurant and the Creolian style WOW !!! JEAN CARLOS BLANCO JIMENEZ is one of the owners of the restaurant, he is really exceptional, he gave us good advice on food and maintained us during our stay. The 3 dishes were just tasty, the cuisine was delicious: the cooking and the typical little sauces like the three members of the restaurant who are all from Colon. My rating for the scubapanama restaurant is perfect, go and enjoy this succulent Creolian food ...
