Perfect

This was the second time we stayed at Lodges de Malbrough and we have just booked a third. The reviews and pictures are all true - this really is a perfect holiday stay and great for relaxation in what i feel is an undiscovered part of Northern France. There is so much to experience in the area we overlooked the larger towns the first time round but visited St Omer and others this time. Favourite Ypres is a short hop away in Belgium, Lille for City life, and the Opal Coast, Le Tougeut and Boulogne sur la mer with Nausicaa a must visit in the other direction. We try and attend the L’andouille festival in Aire sur la lys each year. The accommodation is modern, comfy and spotless. It’s so well looked after and the wild grounds perfect for a little wander and holding fascination for young ones. Theme parks are not far away too. We have been so well looked after by both Stephanie and Marie with personal attention and care to make our stay so much more enjoyable we can’t wait to visit again. It really feels like ‘our’ place and to see the other reviews we are clearly not alone in falling in love with this destination. Merci, Mme Robin!

Nice family place

Reviewed By Patricia K

PLUS Camp side is very specious and very green. There is nice and clean swimming pool (the water is check very frequently) and next to it is a pub with pool and other games. All of that together with children playing area is situated on the middle of the camp. Our mobile home was very clean and everything was very new (we was told the caravans were change last year and you could still smell of newness). The kitchenet has full range of glasses (wine and normal) plates (small, large and deep) as well as cup and saucers. There is full set of cutlery and knifes to meat and bread and even wine opener. Pans, pots, measuring cups, cutting board, salad bowls and many more. Fridge was very good size and had separate freezer department. We stay in two so we've got caravan with two rooms (plus separate lounge) one with double bed (in this room we found queen size duvet and two European cushions) and one twin room (with two single duvets and two cushions). You have to bring your own sheets so its good to know that. Duvets were still in there original plastic bags and cushions look new as well. Apart of dining table we found one more white, plastic table with 4 chairs which together with umbrella (there was even weight for umbrella supplied!) you could use on your outside patio which was very specious. Bathroom and toiled was new and clean and we found even clothes airer. There is shop called Lidl few meters away so shopping is easy but is worth to keep in mind that Sunday all supermarkets are close. Few thing which is worth to remember to buy before you stay... toilet paper, washing liquid, sponge as non of that was supplied. Its fairly close to the beach which is very clean and with white sand and there is few things to see around. MINUS The only minus was that non of the staff spoke English (at all). We were lucky and one of the boys who was temporarily working on the swimming pool saw our dilemma and offered to help with translation... otherwise we would be in big predicament. On arrival they supplies you with the list (in French!) and you need to make little inventory of the caravan (needles to say this is quiet tricky if you don't speak French and staff don't speak English). Apart of that staff is friendly and they try to help.

Don't bother

I am afraid this place was a big disappointment. It is a bit tatty. As far as I could see there are only 3 WCs, ancient and not particularly clean. Often no loo paper. No hot tap for washing your hands. Showers just awful and only cold water. We were given a pitch that was right beside a noisy road. We asked for another but were told that was all that was available. I felt a little unsafe as we saw many groups of young men rambling around who looked liked refugees/would be immigrants. We will not be back.

Lovely stay on quiet, family oriented caravan park

Reviewed By shaun c

We loved this small campsite which is a mix of static caravans & chalets. We were the only brits there this week & we were made to feel very welcome. The other guests were friendly, although not many speak a lot of English so brush up on your Francais! It has 2 pools which are very clean & well maintained, a fishing lake in the centre which is pleasant, playground for younger kids and a tennis court, table tennis & petanque courts and a bar which sells some food. The chalet we stayed in was clean, light & airy & has a decking area & brick barbeque outside. It has a car parking space also. Overall a very enjoyable holiday on a quiet, family oriented caravan park, we would definitely stay here again.

Nice Stay

Reviewed By Anouk v

The camping had spacious places for our tent, which was nice. The shower and toilet facilities were clean. Keep in mind that you need to buy coins at the reception to be able to have a hot shower. The ladies at the reception could only speak French but they tried to speak very clear and slow for us to understand. The camping is very close to the coast and beach which is nice because you can go for a quick swim! Only negative that I can think of is that during our stay there was a fair next to the camping which was very close to our tent and they obviously made a lot of noise.. However, this fair is only once per year and we just had bad luck that it was during our stay there.

Clean site in nice area, shame about the absolute lack of welcome and lack of facilities

Reviewed By lanjstan

Lovely site in a good location, shame about the incorrect information given, lack of welcome and lack of on site support When I booked this site, the website informed me that the swimming pool was open until early November. When I booked I received a confirmation, which also stated that on the dates booked, we would be able to enjoy the tropical heated swimming pool. It was for this reason that I had booked this site in the first place - as it was one of very few along this coastline that had a pool open at that time of year. On arrival the site is pleasant looking and clean and in a nice location. Unfortunately in terms of welcome I can only give the site 1 star at best. We were asked to arrive between 2:30pm and 5:30pm or let the site know that we couldn't. We arrived at 2:30pm and located reception, which was closed. There was no one around at all. On the reception door, I noted 2 telephone numbers that said please call these numbers if we are not here. I tried one number and it just rang out. I tried the second and it rang out and but then the call was disconnected. I tried a 2nd and 3rd time, but again the call was disconnected. After 25 minutes of wondering what to do, we were lucky that someone walked down the path and we asked him if he could help us. He asked us to wait and went into a building at the side of us. He then came back several minutes later and said he was trying to locate someone and made a call on his phone. Eventually he said we should go and wait by the reception and someone would come to us. Finally after waiting over 40 minutes in total, a member of staff arrived , gave us a key to our mobile home. Gave us a booklet containing a code for the entry barrier so we could get the car on the site and said she would follow us to our mobile home to help us with lighting the boiler and switching everything on. We got to the barrier and typed in the code - it didn't work, we kept trying for several minutes, but we couldn't get it to work. Eventually the staff member arrived and I said the code didn't work. She typed a code and the barrier opened straight away, but she just waved us through and said nothing. We made our way to our mobile home assuming the staff member would follow as promised. She finally arrived 30 minutes later, during which time we had no hot water as we didn't know how to light the boiler! I asked her about the code for the barrier and if it was the one she gave us and she laughed and said no, and wrote another code into our booklet! I then asked why the information in our welcome booklet about the swimming pool was crossed out and she said because the pool was closed. I explained that when I booked I was led to believe that it was open till early November and that my confirmation also mentioned the pool and showed her. She insisted however, that when I had booked in June, yes the pool was open, but only until 31st September because there is no demand in October and it's too costly. I said I was not happy, so she said I should come back on Monday (this was Saturday) when reception would be open at 2:30pm to discuss it. I did go back on Monday just after 2:30pm, but reception wasn't open. Our second issue was the lack of support in an emergency. On the Saturday evening at about 9pm, the smoke alarm in our mobile home suddenly went off for no reason and would not stop. It had obviously malfunctioned. We tried to stop it by pressing the button on the front, but it would not stop. My husband tried to take the alarm off the ceiling so we could remove the battery and stop the noise. However, it would not come down and we couldn't find a way of getting the battery out. We tried to phone the emergency number in the booklet we were given, again it just rang out unanswered. I also tried the other number from the reception door, but no one answered. I even tried texting both numbers and translated the issues we were having into French and asked for help, but no one came. Eventually, my husband managed to get the alarm off the ceiling in the hope of removing the battery, but it was a fully sealed unit, so we had to smother the alarm in towels and put it in our car to block the noise. Despite trying to find someone for the rest of the week, we never did find or see a member of staff or find reception open and the fire alarm remained wrapped in towels all week whilst still going off! When we left we put it back on the ceiling and it was still going off! My final issue was over the description of the mobile home in my confirmation, it said that we would have a dishwasher in the mobile home - we actually didn't so I don't know if they gave us the wrong van or whether the description was incorrect, but again - no one available to discuss this with without wasting a lot of my valuable holiday time with my kids searching around trying to locate someone to speak to. All in all pretty disappointing

I've seen better refugee camps

Reviewed By CAMPER-VAN56

Where do I start, as a pervious reviewer said it looks like a shanty town of old static caravans most of which look as though they are permanently occupied by owners. There was a bar that was never open, a multi purpose room but who knows what goes on behind those locked doors? A shop also rarely open and next to no stock on the shelves if it was. Half the shower blocks/toilets were closed, a lot of the camping pitches were little more than gravel, the electric hook up on our pitch didn't work meaning we had to run a cable over the hedge to an adjoining pitch, the water taps were hanging off the posts, the showers had lights on a timer meaning you had to shower in the dark in the luke warm water provided. if I hadn't been made to pay in advance I would driven away and not stayed in the first place!

Very dirty and not prepared

Reviewed By AnnaKa2020

What was good: the owner was friendly. The rest was bad unfortunately, the whole place did not seem to be prepared for guests although it is officially open from March 1th. The sanitary unit was not even a bit cleaned, and it was cold as ice. In fact it was so cold and wet that even the toilet paper got wet over night! We were not offered a place to wash our dishes so we had to do it in the tiny one in the sanitary unit. The small village around the place was kind of desolate, for example there was a dead cat lying on the pavement and a red plastic chair floated in a small creek. We really cannot recommend this camping spot! :-(
