Budget-minded travelers will appreciate Phnom Penh's reasonably priced hotel rooms (several top-rated hotels on TripAdvisor offer rooms around $40/night). Explore the city's temples, palaces, and the remnants of its French colonial history. Just outside the city, the The Killing Fields (Choeung Ek) are a reminder of Cambodia's tragic past-- a somber contrast to the booming city of today.

Bus travel through Asia is always difficult and you can usually expect pretty uncomfortable journeys so when I booked Giant Ibis for our travel through Cambodia I was expecting a really standard service. However, I was blown away by how good they are and they are even better than National Express and Megabus which we use in the U.K. We ended up using them for all of our travel, from Ho Chi Minh to Phnom Penh, down to Sihanoukville, night bus to Siem Reap and then across to Bangkok. I have made a summary of our journeys below: Ho Chi Minh to Phnom Penh Scheduled to arrive at 16:45 but arrived 18:30 (you can expect to arrive around 2 hours after the scheduled time and this is due to border control). We were given complimentary pastries and water. We paid $35 total for visa, no extra charges and we didn’t need to supply a photo to border control contrary to other reviews. We were through the border in about 40 mins and you get a lunch stop there too. Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville Left and arrived on time and given complimentary water and food. Friendly guide kept us informed the whole way and dropped us just up from the pier, 2 min walk so we could get the ferry to Koh Rong. Sihanoukville to Siem Reap night bus Left in time at 7pm, you have to walk up to the roundabout up from the pier to catch the bus, this was very unclear at the time. Night bus was comfortable, WiFi on bus plus chargers and air con. Slept all the way through undisturbed. Arrived ~7am in Siem Reap with tuk tuks to take you into town. Sihanoukville to Bangkok Left on time at 8:45, gave us Nescafé ice coffees and free vegetable fried rice for lunch. Border control was easy to get through although a bit unclear on where to go but we found our way. Arrived Bangkok at 18:15 (note, there were no taxis or tuk tuks at the Makkasan station so we had to get the train). Really recommend these guys to anyone travelling through Cambodia! Made the whole experience extremely easy.

We spent the night at a waterfront hotel in Chau Doc, Vietnam. The Mekong Express pick us up from our hotel, prepared all paperwork for our Cambodia visa, escorted us through the border checkpoints, then zoomed up river to Phnom Penh. Very easy. Very efficient. Very low cost. This was a fun experience, and a quick way to cross the border. Highly recommend, either direction.

I've heard a few bad things about some bus companies in Siem Reap. I took this one because it was the only one that would accept my bicycle inside the bus. I took Giant Ibis before, but they were not running due to Covid. I was charged $20 for the bicycle, and 3 jumbo size luggage bags, and 1 laptop bag and myself to Phnom Penh, so this was a more than acceptable price. The bus was double decker with AC but without wifi. Driver was a bit aggressive, but all in all, it was a fine trip, and the tuk tuk guy drove me to my hotel for $11 with all 4 bags and the bicycle, although hes not from this bus company, that was also fine.

Seila Angkor Express provides the best transportation service from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap from 6am to 6pm and vice versa by using Brand New Toyota Hiace and Ford Transit. We have a high level safety and good service as we constantly check our drivers using GPS, we provide insurance for our customers and we are punctual.
I was a bit apprehensive about taking Seila Angkor since the reviews (aside from maybe 2) said they had an awful experience but I have to say, I'm really happy with the experience! 1) Reasonably priced 2) Arrived early (1h20m before schedule arrival time) 3) Decently comfortable I took the 6pm bus (really a van) this past Sunday from SR and arrived in PP around 10:40pm which was great considering the scheduled arrival time was 12am (yay)! It was a Sunday so perhaps there was less traffic than usual? However, there are no frills. You get a bottle of water, two quick stops, one to run to the bathroom and a longer, 20 min one to grab some dinner. I would recommend just eating before if you're a picky eater. I'm about 5'5", 138lbs and fit pretty comfortably but I would say you might feel a bit cramped if you're on the taller side - perhaps sit in a seat that doesn't have a seat directly in front of it to give you some extra leg room. Also, the roads are getting better but there will be bumps and a little sashaying back and forth but nothing more than your average ride. The other thing that I think was mentioned in previous reviews was that they had to switch vans before leaving - we had to do this as well. It wasn't a big deal at all, just basically got shuttled to the main terminal and switched into another van. No major difference between them and they didn't explain why but, again, no biggie. If you're looking for a reasonable and reliable way to get from SR to PP, I would recommend it! Safe travels. :)
