There are four different routes across the city with buses coming every few minutes and it is certainly a much better option for getting around the city than the hop on, hop off bus. We hopped off the monorail and caught the red line to Central Station as we wanted to go to the National Museum which was just across the main road outside the station. Along the way we encountered locals going about their shopping and using the buses to travel home and through local neighbourhoods which are vastly different to the tourist area around the Petronas Towers. Lived it.

The number 101 bus is recommended. Very cheap and passes a lot of the sights in town as well as following the coast line up to the north of the island to the entrance of the National Park and the ferries taking passengers beach hopping. Can we used to go to and back from Penangs biggest night market. Plenty of cheap eateries and drinking places at its final stop.

RAPID KL AIRPORT SERVICE - CHEAPEST WAY TO/FROM AIRPORT There is a new Rapid KL (KL public transport) route to and from KLIA 1 and KLIA 2 to Kuala Lumpur. The bus takes you to Putra Heights LRT station. From there your ticket includes free use of the Rapid KL system to any other station you want to go to, on any of the LRT, MRT or BRT lines. And all for RM 10 !! (As of Jan 2020). From the airport bus terminals, you just look or ask where the bus stops. At klia2 I noticed it was using B03 loading dock. And you just buy tickets on the bus, not the ticket counter. Do not throw away receipt: you need it when you get to Putra Heights station, to exchange for a Subway token. Also, when returning to the airport, remember to keep your receipt that you get with token, because it becomes your bus ticket when you reach Putra Heights. This Rapid KL to airport service runs only from early morning to about 10pm I think. There is no sign about this great public transit service for some odd reason, but it is there! Check the rapid KL website for more info.

The bbest way to travel from Kuala Lunpur to Penang. Charges are MYR 44 as on July 2017. Buses are execellent and have reclining seats and run from KTM Nice Lounge and goes till Georgetown Bus Terminal and from there you can get bus to Georgetwon centre within the same bus stop. Nice buses provides biscuits and water and cover the journey in 4.5 hours. Buses are well maintained and they stop once for 10 minutes for break. Highly recommend instead of going to the hassle of airport and then flying Air Asia to Penang. Nice buses are a better option and you can easily book online on catchmybus.com and many other websites. Enjoyed my journey a
