I would highly recommend Angela as your tour guide. She knows the city inside out. She is super competent, friendly, funny and punctual. She made my Hamburg city trip incredible and shared a lot of history about the city. Angela ist am besten Reiseleiterin. Sie kennt die Stadt in- und auswendig. Sie ist super kompetent, freundlich, lustig und pünktlich. Sie hat meine Hamburger Städtereise unglaublich gemacht und viel Geschichte über die Stadt geteilt.

We found this boat tour on TA. It was a little hard to find the office on Brueke 1, but we found it. Although the picture showed a paddle wheel boat, we took one of the smaller ones as the paddle wheel only ran once in a while. Regardless, we really enjoyed the tour, which lasted 1 hour. We got to see houses on the river, Hamburg beach and several large container ships. It was really cool! Overall, a great boat tour. Our only recommendation would be for the company to highlight items in both German and English. They definitely had enough time, as the downloadable English app was a bit clunky to use. Anyway, we recommend you try it.

Our virtual tour was spectacular. This was easy to book. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, well organized and took the time to answer all our questions. She allowed us to take the time to observe the memorials and process it. There is nothing like experiencing a tour in person; however, our guide made the experience feel as though we were there. I highly recommend this alternative way of touring during these limited travel times.

Bus tour around the city - plenty options for the hop-on-hop-off option, with stops are most places of interest in the city. I opted for the bus-only tour (though there are options that combine this with a river boat tour too). A one day ticket was less than 20 Euros. The tour is pleasant enough, though there aren't enough spots where the bus is stationary, to take photographs. I used the audio guide headphones, which were clear and easy to hear, but the commentary is very basic, with cheesy humour.

This was my first visit to Hamburg. I had a friend that lives in Hamburg and one that used to live in Germany with me. I don't speak German very well so I used tour translation. One of my friends used it too but was disappointed that it was not up to date with what the tour guide was saying.
