The Tank Museum

The Tank Museum brings history to life, with the world’s best collection of tanks and explosive live displays. Our exhibitions tell the story of armoured warfare spanning over 100 years of history. Exploring ten powerful exhibitions, you will come face to face with almost 300 armoured vehicles. This unique collection includes the world’s first ever tank, the feared German Tiger and the modern Challenger 2. There are special events going on throughout the year at The Tank Museum including TANKFEST, Tiger Day and the Vintage Christmas Festival and Craft Fayre, as well as special activity programmes during the School Holiday.

My seven-year-old grandson and I visited together. He is an enthusiast for tanks of all sizes. I served in the RTR in the 1970s. This was our fourth visit together, but the pleasure of seeing the displays and the eagerness of getting to the museum have not lessened. We are a bit disappointed the Tiger display is being dispersed, but appreciate you have to introduce new ideas. We enjoy seeing the scale models and the semi-Lego, although grandpa whose pocket is not bottomless sees this as an advertisement for your shop. The layout of the museum, the great variety of tanks on display, the information boards, the background history, the helpful guides -- all make this an unsurpassed museum experience for both grandson and grandfather. Even our enthusiasm for toy soldiers can be indulged. We look forward further visits with our year entry, another good feature.

Monkey World

Reviewed By davey19672015 - Carlisle, United Kingdom

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful afternoon at Monkey World in Dorset during our stay in Bournemouth. There is good parking space with plenty of room for children and family on arrival. The layout of the park is excellent with good walkways , very good for disabled people. The very spacious rescue centre houses monkeys from all over the world with amazing real life stories displayed of how each was rescued from an awful life of hardship. The Orang-utans were happy and playful, interacting with each other in a mischievous way. It was incredible to watch Monkeys grooming each other and imitating our actions, giving a feeling of connection. The staff give informative talks at set times which add to the experience. There are indoor and outdoor cafes providing hot drinks and snacks.Entrance fee is £14 per adult with family group prices which are very reasonable. All in all the more we can give to help these wonderful animals and the hard work at Monkey world the better. A very enjoyable experience.

We love this cinema so much, we have just been two nights in a row!. We don’t live in the area but frequently visit. It has a lovely ambiance, isn’t expensive and is run by a lovely group of passionate volunteers. If you are in the area it’s an experience you shouldn’t miss. It’s the perfect blend of nostalgia and modern technology

Tyneham

Tyneham is a beautiful place to visit. The ruins of the last residents cottages and the renovated church and schoolhouse make this abandoned village a great place to visit. The atmosphere and history of this place is amazing. You can feel the atmosphere and can almost see the ghosts of the village their presence is so strong. The walk down to worbarrow bay takes you along the edge of the Goyle or through it depending on your preference. Wild deer and other animals can be seen on quiet days. Well worth a visit to walk around and take in the atmosphere of a village that sacrificed it's existence to help in the war effort and prepare the troops for the invasion of Europe.

Lulworth Estate

During these family-friendly sessions, which are suitable for children 8+, you’ll ‘get up close to the coast’ and traverse, swim and jump around this beautiful part of the Jurassic Coast. Spot fossils, swim through caves and explore millions of years of Earth’s history.

The Lulworth estate really combines well to make a great day out. Lulworth cove, Durdle door and Lulworth castle are in close proximity to each other and if you visit Lulworth cove or Durdle door first, the parking ticket is valid for all 3 places.( If you visit the castle first you will need to buy two parking tickets.) Durdle door offers nice walks and incredible scenery while Lulworth cove has nice shops and cafes in a nice small haven. If you enjoy cliff walks then then you can walk between the two locations and enjoy the stunning views. The castle is an imposing building from outside and although we didn't go inside, the grounds and church were lovely.
