A colonial touch blended with the robust Tamil culture, Pondicherry is just a two-hour picturesque drive away from Chennai. Visit here for the cobblestone cycling-friendly streets, the rich history of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, and some of the best cafes in which to hang out. A place where lethargy is a virtue, enjoy the sun rise at the widely used beachfront. The same place converts into a local hangout at night when traffic is stopped and post-dinner walkers turn out for ice cream.

Excellent old church with towering high spires just opposite to the railway station. Altar is aesthetically done. The Gothic style 100-year-old church with some rare stained glass paintings of the 28 saints who were related to the devotion of Sacred Heart of Jesus, is one of the churches tourists visit often and is a famous pilgrimage site for Christians. The red and white-bricked walls reminded me of my primary school days - the Sacred Heart School. Visit to churches is a true reminiscent of so many childhood days. Right at the entrance are inscribed these degrees: "I will sanctify this place, for my heart is here." Cheers to life!!

This is the place which lists down what all restorations have been done in and around Pondicherry. In a way it takes us back to olden times and shows what Pondicherry really was - a quiet sea side holiday town, long before the excellent connectivity with neighbouring cities transformed it into a weekend holiday destination. The place helps us connect the past of Pondicherry with the present.

Visited on a full moon day which is extremely alluring. Enjoyed the cleanliness of the place, no vehicles are allowed from evening till morning. A walk on this beach in the evening or early morning with the sound of crashing waves and at times the sprays of the sea water are always refreshing. Must visit for watching the sunrise.

A spiritual experience sans any parallel. Ashram has stores where one could buy books on spirituality and photos of Mother and Shri Aurobindo. Quite an experience.
