The Museum in the Park is set in the beautiful grounds of Stratford Park in Stroud, Gloucestershire. Situated in a Grade II listed 17th Century wool merchant’s house; our collection tells the fascinating story of the Stroud District’s rich and diverse history. With over 4,000 objects on display, including dinosaur bones, historical paintings and even one of the world’s first lawnmowers, there is something to spark the interest of all of our visitors! In addition to the main displays in the mansion house, we have our modern extension which houses a small gift shop and café area, alongside a modern, purpose-built art gallery showing a varied programme of exhibitions. Behind this is Stroud’s ‘secret garden’ - a contemporary Walled Garden that will amaze and may well cause you to say 'wow'!
We read about a craft fair being held in Stratford Park so decided to pay them a visit a good job we did as we came across the museum. When we went in it was absolutely magic and as we are in our 60s it brought back a lot of memories, well worth a visit. There is a lift which was very handy as I am partially disabled and struggle with stairs, on certain days there is a pop up cafe in the garden and can be accessed via a gentle winding ramp.

Lovely walk round the grounds with the family. Way walking but a bit muddy at times. The odd rope swing and seesaw to keep the children happy

Woodchester Mansion is a 19th Century Victorian Gothic masterpiece mysteriously abandoned mid-construction in 1873. Hidden in a secluded Cotswold Valley, it is untouched by time and the modern world. This unique Grade 1 Listed Building has been saved from dereliction but it will never be completed, enabling visitors to view the secret building techniques of medieval Gothic builders. Special events are held throughout the year, but do check our open days and times before visiting.
An amazing looking mansion - Victorian Gothic. It is NOT a ruin but is a building site. The owners did not quite finish it, which makes for a fascinating story. That was explained to us during a 45 mins tour inside and out - fantastically explained by a local volunteer who had grown up nearby. We walked down and back from the car park - under 30 mins round trip through a lovely valley and even saw a calf being tended to soon after being born, which was an unusual bonus. Beyond the house is a lovely lake that we will go to next time - there definitely WILL be a next time.

We visited on a sunny day. The grounds were lovely in the sunshine and walking through all the yew trees was fun. The interior of the church wasn't particularly spectacular but the people were smiley as we went in (I think they had just finished a service).

A great Saturday morning market, taking place almost every Week in Stroud. With a bustling lively vibe there's lots of good quality local produce on offer, ranging from eggs, dairy & cheeses, fruit & veg, meat, cakes, craft beers etc. There are often stalls with work from local crafts people such as potters, jewelers, handmade soaps & toiletries etc. There are also a range of street food sellers too if you don't feel like one of the many local cafes.

Great views after a long climb from Painswick but well worth it. The views are magnificent on a clear day you can see across Gloucester and see Wales which is over 100km.
