Unique in its kind, Pierre et Lumière is an underground route where you can admire impressive sculptures representing the monuments and heritage of the Loire Valley. Hundreds of tons of stone were cut, cut and chiselled to the smallest detail. Nearly 3 years of work have been required to realize the sumptuous sculptures of castles, towns, villages and churches of our region, often carried out in low relief from the rock. A subtle luminous staging reveals the beauty of volumes and details. Lighting evolves, turns, changes colour to sublime every facet of the work. At the end of the visit, an unforgettable experience for children! A tuffeau stone, tools and wise advice. Here they are ready to create a memory that will remain etched in the stone and in their hearts.
we found this place quite interesting as it allows you to see many towns, cities in one spot - sculpted with great refinement - truly a must see - buy the 2 or 3 museum pass as it is more interesting

Great tour which was really informative. We emailed ahead to book an English speaking tour which was responded too very promptly. After a tour of the vast caves where the different process of wine production is explained ( which was like a private tour as it was only my husband and I taking part with an English speaking hostess) We enjoyed sampling many different types and vintages of wine during which our hostess explained everything we needed to know about each different one, there is absolutely no pressure to purchase but we very happily did as the sparkling red is a regional speciality which you can’t buy in the U.K. and is absolutely lovely????????????

Tourisitc visits of Ackerman's cellars in Saumur and tasting. A three-part visit at the heart of troglodyte cellars: a trip throughout history, an artistic experience and a break on the Loire river... Founded in 1811, Ackerman is the leading producer of Loire Valley fine sparkling wines. Situated in Saumur, on the banks of the Thouet river, a tributary of the Loire, at once informative and entertaining, the cellars of the House of Ackerman combine charm, heritage, and prestige. The wines of Ackerman are true to type, well-balanced and elegant. Thanks to a large selection of fine sparkling wines (Cremant de Loire, Saumur Brut) and Loire Valley still wines (Saumur-Champigny, St Nicolas de Bourgueil, Chinon, Sancerre...), you will be able to appreciate the prestige of a great brand which has seduced consumers world-wide over the past two centuries. Ackerman is bubbly, luminous and enticing. The House's still, sparkling, organic and alcohol-free wines are available at its boutique all year round. Discover Ackerman's world of wines.
We spent a couple of hours here on a particularly hot day. Self-guided tour was leisurely and it was a very quiet day so not many other people around really. The exhibit is informative and the art displays were good too. We enjoyed the free tasting at the end and bought 6 bottles to take home. Not all the bottles made it home as we drank them on holiday so I will have to find somewhere in the UK which sells Ackerman Cremant de Loire.

Very interesting place to visit with a tour of the distillery showing the process of making Triple Sec. Tasting at the end of tour. Certainly recommended is the Cherry Creme.
