Explore lovely, compact Puerto Varas on foot, the best way to take in views of Osorno Volcano and the wooden colonial homes built by German immigrants in the early 1900s. Several are designated as national monuments. Located on the shores of Lago Llanquihue, Chile's second-largest lake, the village is the low-key antidote to the Lake District metropolis of Puerto Montt and serves as a jumping off point for fly-fishing, whitewater rafting, horseback riding and sea kayaking excursions.

Only 14km from Puerto Varas, this environment and biodiversity Conservation Park consists of 150 hectares of native forest, fields, sunken forest on Maullin River and a wild animal rehabilitation center. Please we need your Reservation to give you the schedule, price and timing for your visit. There, we offer several activities, all guided, such as trekking the forests, navigation through the sunken forest, fly-fishing, bird watching and a tour at the wild animal center. Your visit can last from one hour and a half to six hours, depending on the activities you choose to do. In the park we also have a "fogon" (room where we cook with fire and eat) where you can enjoy a great homemade lunch (advance reservation necessary) and a big room where a large number of people can find shelter for an event. Our principal goal is to protect our environment by making it known and giving each visitor a unique and personal experience with the environment. A big hug
My husband and I arrived in the morning sun to the beautiful setting of the main house on the river bank. We were met by Silvio and his staff who were most welcoming. They did not admit until we were eating the fantastic lunch of steak from the associated cattle farm that they had not been told by our tour operator that my husband was suffering with a foot injury and unable to walk well on uneven or sloping ground: Appearing with a wheeled walking frame the team quietly sorted a personalised tour for us. With much help and support given in an appropriate and friendly manner we both were able to relax in the small shallow metal boat and let Silvio guide us engineless through the beautiful sunken forest. His knowledge helped us understand the fragility of the Eco system within the world we had entered. We have travelled quite broadly but never experienced anything like this before The rescue and conservation areas were inspiring. The rescued Pumas, wild cat, owl, and birds all had their own stories of why they were there. The programme to support increasing the numbers of endangered Pudu deer was explained (and the 3 day old baby beautiful) They told us how they had 45 eggs given to them by the police rescued from the illegal egg collectors and had hand reared the parakeet chicks so that they might soon be released back to the wild. The star of the show was the baby starling in his hand made nest in the restaurant who happily chirped for more food having been rescued from the jaws of death almost at birth. Lunch - the most amazing steak we have had (from Silvio's cattle) cooked to perfection and serenaded by the family. We both wish Silvo, his family and team every success in preserving thus safe haven for the future. He deserves much support for the passion he clearly has for sustaining this exquisite environment

This royal blue lake is Chile's largest and South America's fourth largest lake.
We spent almost a day driving around the lake and discovered a stunningly beautiful part of chile. The view is constantly changing: mountains, volcanoes, lake, forests, green meadows, gently rolling hills and charming little towns like german influenced Frutillar or Puerto Octay. A must do when you are in the area.

Sometimes called Lago Esmeralda because of its blue-green color, this strikingly beautiful glacial lake is bordered by steep cliffs.
We arrived at the lake in time to get the ferry to Puella but the trip takes 6 hours (including 3 hours at Puella, a small town with nothing much to do once there). We managed to take a trip on a smaller boat as recommend by the many selling ferry tickets and had one and a half hours on the lake. We went out round the Isla Margarita and back. We were lucky to have fantastic weather with view of all the surrounding volcanoes and mountains and had a wonderful trip. Having saved several hours we then got stuck on the road back out of Petrohue for and hour and a half whilst workman laid a pipe but you can't have everything. A beautiful place in the sunshine...

Take a guided tour with Pedro, the grandson of the founder Antonio Felmer. Impressive dedication to preserving and restoring old artefacts and keeping this historic place open to the public. A must visit if you want to learn about the origins of the settlers in this area.
